Hi guys,

Pretty new to Alden...I saw these boots on Brick + Mortar's IG account and fell in love. Sadly, they've all been sold, but they will place another order for them. I put my name down on the pre-order list.

The wait is going to suck so I'll need something else to hold me over for the time being. :)

Some truths likely...but for the most part I feel at least 50 of the FD list contains firsts that are only a few pairs and basically orphans, I.e. Not enough for most retailers to deal with and thus TSM gets to clear them out. No doubt a few pairs are indeed defective and in rare instances not wearable for most of us.

Of the pairs I've bought none have had any serious issues and in some cases I've never found a flaw. Some pairs of rare shell colors were higher priced this time and a few other times in the past and simply a few pairs that TSM got sell at a slightly lower price. Such as the Whiskey WT boot in 13E. It was $599.00 and likely not a FD.

Don't take my comments wrong...Alden does send out pairs that never should have been first's and in most cases the attitude is if you don't buy them somebody else will.

I do feel the 2nds list overall is a win for many who would not otherwise get into the Alden game.

They're great boots. You won't be disappointed with them and Yenni's CS makes buying from her shop an even better experience when all said and done. Im waiting for the Natty CXL NST boots which can't come fast enough.

What types of footwear do you already own? Are you a boot guy? Do you try to keep a balance between shoes and boots? Are you looking for another pair of boots? Are you looking for another color of CXL and another style, perhaps?

Without knowing those things, it will be hard to recommend something, but I would guess that you want another pair of boots but are not wanting to go for any shell, in which case I would recommend a different style - perhaps a wingtip boot? TheShoeMart has a nice Natural CXL wingtip boot (all eyelets). Many retailers carry the Tan Calfskin wingtip boot - also a lovely makeup of which I believe @Disco Volante has taken many nice photos. It's not really the right season for suede, but you could get a nice suede boot, or perhaps something in reverse chamois if you want a more rugged boot.

You could check out @mdubs' website, (aldenofsandiego.com), and see the various styles he has (mostly shell, but you can get a sense of patterns and styles) and see what retailers carry them. I would recommend browsing TheShoeMart's website, as well as Alden SF (aldenshop.com) and Alden of Carmel (alden-of-carmel.com). Other retailers are best contacted by phone (Kathy at Alden DC, or the guys over at Alden Madison Ave NY).

Yes, Yenni was very easy to work with. I'm really looking forward to receiving these!

I am actually in the process of trying to build a decent shoe collection. I don't have anything nice right now. I bought a pair of JCrew Indy boots before Xmas, but returned them due to a stitching issue.

I work in a business casual setting so (ideally) anything that I buy should look good with jeans, chinos, dress pants, etc...

I like cordovan quite a bit. Some 975s seem like a good start, maybe followed by some PTBs.

The 975 is a great choice. You could also look into the 2210 (#8 shell NST blucher).

Another kind of Alden suede is mocha kid suede, which is my favorite. Not quite as much nap as calf suede. I just placed an order with NRO for a pair of wingtips in that leather. Discount code seemed to work. We'll see tomorrow when the store is open.

EDIT - ATLVOL beat me to the punch pointing out that LeatherSoul had similar and I don't know how to delete my post.

all this talk about pre-order mix-ups - I just placed a pre-order for the country tan captoe 6-eyelet chukka from AOC so i hope the eyelet person notices that they're supposed to keep going past the second set.

Hi,

In continuation of my earlier post, I am a US 9.5 most of the time. I got a Barrie last CXL boot in US 9.5 D last week, my first Alden purchase. US 9 was too tight and short in length. With US 9.5 and medium socks, my larger foot is nicely snug inside the shoe. However, I feel room inside the boot on my other foot. Does this sound right? Should I try 9.5 C or 10 C? Not my retailers carry the C width in Barrie last.

I really want to get this right as they are few Cordovan boots that I am eyeing on the Barrie last at the Alden SF online store.

I would say try a 9.5C...I figure out what socks I will be wearing prior to a purchase and order accordingly.
