I just applied for a NEXUS which includes TSA precheck which will be nice, but I think the support shanks will still require removal at security?

Safe travels!

Nope - all my Alden's set off the TSA Pre-Check metal detectors - one reason I prefer speed hooks. smile.gif

It's been a while since I've purchased new Aldens. My pre-order Leffot Greenwich boot in reverse chamois finally arrived today. Not sure if I ever knew they were all eyelets so need to start getting use to no speedhooks!

The eyelet issue (and the fact that my Greenwich accidentally got sold to someone else) was the reason I asked Yenni if she could do a run with the speedhooks. Your boots look great! Wear in the best of health.

Great pickup!  I don't think I'll ever go all eyelets again.  My black calf wingtip boots are a pain in the arse.  I have to remove the lacing from two eyelets in order to get my foot in/out.

Gentlemen, what stores have waitlists for cigar LWBs with an antique edge, and how would I go about getting myself onto these waitlists?

I was a huge fan of all eyelets but much prefer speed hooks now.

What happens is the TSA guy will yell at you "YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF THIS IS THE PRECHECK LINE" when you start to take them off.
At this point you have a choice of listening to TSA guy and having the shoes inevitably beep and you have to take them off anyway, or you just continue to take them off and the TSA guy glares at you for not listening and "DON'T YOU KNOW THIS IS THE PRECHECK LINE YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF".

Quick question for you guys. While lacing my new B&M boots, I noticed several "ripples" in the leather on the outside of the right toe box, where the upper connects to the sole (this creates a sort of lumpy feeling when you run your finger on it). At the same place, about 1/8" of the top of the sole is exposed interior to the welt stitching, and the medallion is consequently shifted inwards and off-center. Is this something I should be concerned about from a performance perspective? It's fairly noticeable, as I'm really not somebody to scour over new shoes looking for imperfections, but aesthetically it doesn't bother me much. Still I'm concerned it's a defect that could worsen over time, and I'd obviously like these to last for a while.

I spoke with Yenni, who has been excellent from start to finish (and already offered me something for my troubles) and she said she thinks it's just cosmetic, but that Alden would probably agree it's defective. If it's worth the hassle to me I can return them and wait for the next order to come in (six months). What would you guys do?

I just interrupt them at the same volume with "THESE BOOTS HAVE STEEL SHANKS" and the "You fucking douchebag" is implied with my tone and facial expression.

Last time it happened to me there was a dude right behind me who was dressed very nice, and wearing very nice shoes who also had to remove his. We had a little moment and he said something like "the price you pay for wearing quality footwear..."

I just take mine off and deal with it. But yes, I am frequently reminded of the PreCheck benefits as well.

Y'all can stop posting pictures of the Alt Weins - they make me smile too much and I really want to get some NST boots before I get anything else...

If you are trying to control your shoe purchasing, this isn't the best place to go.
