Mac, you are killing it in your classic PCT Balmorals and Argyles. They have a great shine on them.

I will not wear any leather soles in bad weather.
They can be the top of the line JR double leather soles, even double waterlock watercock soles. I won't do it.

Edit: Damn spellcheck

They're finishing up a pair for me right now.

I have the CJ x BB shell boot on dainite and picked up a pair of Alden WT shell boots that the original owner put dainite on. I love dainite. Low profile and very durable. I would highly recommend them. I know Nick at B Nelson is a fan as well.

If anyone else has, I'd love to see pictures of them used long term for that purpose.

I typically wear my Kudu Indy's in inclimate weather and they hold up super well.  I also like the heavy Vibram sole on them for the snow.

My AF53 are pretty much my go-to bad whether boot.  I have some CXL boots that some would argue are better options for crummy weather.  I don't necessarily disagree, but I just love wearing shell boots.  Once you rip the band-aid off, it becomes easier to wear them in all types of conditions.  These have seen rain, snow, mud, and muck (a few pictures included).  They've even been totally soaked through while hiking through boggy terrain (second picture).  They always clean up nicely with a wipe down, brushing, and conditioning (last picture).

I'm more cautious with lighter shell due to potential water stains and like others, I only trust commando (or similar) sole in bad weather.  Sorry for the huge pictures - my computer is acting weird this morning...

+1 . Sold my whiskey LWB, NST and PTB. Never missed them for a day. Always found them hard to wear.

Not Alden but my AE Bayfields in shell saw tons of snow and rain last year and look fine still...I am not a high shine guy so works well for me though once in a while I give them a good bick 4 treatment and the luster up

Long-time no post

I am using my Leffot Cigar Indy boots as my go to wet / cold weather boots this winter. I think they will perform well

In other Alden news, I have black shortwings arriving from Leather Soul - Aside from my 990 and my Marlow wingitps, not sure if I need any more shell bluchers. Maybe Leffot's antique color 8 longwings.

And to add to the shell - some here also are Viberg fans...they did a shell cordovan with the hide still attached...stunning boot. super thick leather and an quite sure it is the toughest stuff out there. not a shine up leather but simply one of the best boots I won...if you ever see it offered again....buy buy buy

While I don't reserve shell for only fair weather, I do only wear commando sole when it's raining or snowing. I have this mental block or anxiety wearing commando when it's dry. It's like running wet tires on a dry race track.
