I would personally opt for some more variety, but I also find myself enforcing variety for the sake of it. I also think the amount of variety/non-redundancy you need depends on the size of your collection (obvious statement, I know). Anyway, if you love ravello and plain toes (and what Alden fan doesn't), I could see owning both.

+1
It is heavily dependent on the size and variety in your
Current collection.

Current Ravello is also pretty dark, so there's that too.

In rare colors, the PTB and chukka can both be pretty casual... I had a cigar PTB but never wore it because I always reached for the chukka when I wanted that kind of plain toe, so I sold the PTB. A lot of people seem to own color 8 PTBs and chukkas , though, as both can go better with more formal wear.

One thing I don't have is a PTB. I think that, following my recent spree, the last two shoes on my list are a black shell monk and a color 8 PTB.

yea, I absolutely love my cigar chukka (and the natural patina it has developed). I *hopefully* have a ravello PTB en route, so that might satisfy my need for chukka in that same shade, *BUT*, an impulsive ability to grab ravello chukka might just take a hold of me..

NAMOR, that Carmina shoe is beautiful, but man, I have no clue what that page says at all... :)

I will attest, that a bit of searching and persistence has allowed me to add 3 pairs of shoes in each of the "rare" colors in the past 6 months. If intent on getting shoes, call around, build a relationship with the retailers, and enjoy what you have... I personally like this shortage as it helps me to control my awful impulses.

While I like this theory, it doesn't seem to work too well for me in practice. In the past 30 days I've bought three pairs of shell shoes -- color 8, Cigar, and Ravello -- and could've bought at least another pair in Ravello. Aside from that one pair, the only self-control I've managed to exert was making myself wait 24 hours before calling about anything on TSM's seconds list, in the hopes that someone else bought it during that time. Fortunately, that worked.

I can't believe my wife puts up with this.

My "new" Ravello LHS. I picked them up from my PO BOX at 11:40 last night. I was like a little kid ripping into the box.

The socks were picked up on my trip @ the Neiman Marcus flagship in Dallas.

Great shoes Tampa. Very nice combo.

Yeah, I have been massively failing also. I am beginning to struggle to find places to store my shoes. I have a ankle dweller of a dog who I don't want to have the ability to reach my shoes. I only have soo much upper shelf cabinet space at my house!

You've demonstrated once again the depth of your wonderful wardrobe.  Enjoy your saddles and the weekend my friend!

Thanks for the kind words rtp. It seemed like a big week for most folks on the thread. Lots of ravello and plaza #8 boots.
Great to see the shell shortage coming to an end. :)

Been trying to catch up on the thread - I'm gathering that both SF and Madison got the PTB's in. Can anyone clarify the edge trim color? Dark or light?

I have ravello LWB and an unlined color 8 PTB. Assuming my size exists, I might have to jump.

question for all..

would ravello chukka be redundant whilst owning ravello PTB? I'm 99% casual dressed

Definitely a tough one. While I don't think owning ravello anything is a bad idea, given scarce resources, I can see your concern. I have a PTB and chukka in color 8 and even though the chukka is commando there are times that I think the two are too closely related and wish I could exchange one for something that provides a little more variety.

with NAMOR's recent comparison between LS and JG plaza captoes, any similar photo comparisons between the Grant Captoe and the Barrie AF60 Captoe?
Dear sir, the gentleman who goes by the moniker "NAMOR" is a shoe afficianado of the highest order. His knowledge, wardrobe, and experience are second to none in the field of high quality mens footwear. His exemplary wisdom and patience will help guide you thru the maze that oft times is confounding and confusing. He's helped me a lot. The people on this thread who's post and pictures continually grab your attention can be a fantastic resource when making choices and decisions at a price point that to some may seem rediculous.
