They'll probably get better looking once the black wears a bit..............

Hi all.

New to the Alden game, and looking for some help.

I am looking to purchase a pair of Shell Cap toes. From what I hear, most people size true to their regular size, with perhaps the exception of the Barrie last, which runs a bit bigger for some.

I am looking for a color that is perhaps most versatile. Would you all say black would be better than color 8?

Furthermore, are there any other shell color options other than black and color 8 for a cap toe boot in a non-Commando sole? I've looked at Shoemart and AoC, but haven't seen much else. I particularly like this color, but do not know the color or even if it is available anywhere.

Your help is much appreciated!

Feel free to let me know if this isnt allowed on here...but:

Cigar Cordovan Cap Toes - 10.5 - Grant Last available on Grailed (not mine) but seems like they're being offered at standard cost. Given the lack of availability, I would think these will get snapped up fast.

If I was a 10.5, I would likely buy these even though I've only just ordered my first aldens last night...

A handful of retailers (Alden DC, NY, TSM) run captoe boots in the rarer shell colors. But those appear maybe once every 12-18 months and seemingly longer recently. Your best bet would be to call them, get on a list, and be very patient.

The lasts most frequently used for CT Boots are Barrie and Grant. You should size down 1/2 on Barrie (approximately). Grant is more of a tweener and you find people who size down 1/2 and those who go true-to-size.

Always cool to see Aldens in the wild:

My salesman at Kamakura shirts on Madison Ave was sporting some color 8 LHS from AoM with some japanese selvedge denim. Funny because I picked up my first pair of Alden LHS just yesterday.

Great taste dude! Man after my own heart.
I have those same snuff suede and brown alpine grain PCT boots. For black captoes, I have the Leffot black alpine Graintrippers. Where are your black shell from?

My thoughts on the signature Alden shell cordovan shine and why using basically no products on them is often the best choice:

this is my least favorite thing about alden. doesn't help that some of their best makeups are on the barrie last which happens to feature a heel cup approximately the size of a cantaloupe.
