I am looking to buy a pair of Alden LHS loafers but can't seem to find the right size. I typically wear 10.5D in Allen Edmonds dress shoes. I tried on the LHS loafers in a size 10D, and the width on the balls of my feet were perfect, but the heel was slightly too wide. What would be the proper size given that I have normal width on the balls of my feet and narrow heels? Would anyone recommend heel liners/pads? Would those work?

Thanks!

Enigma, yeah, the LHS can be a pain in the rear to size. May want to look for a 10C. DC, SF, Madison or ShoeMart should have them in stock.

Just to confirm, the AOM Tankers have a storm-welt, while the Leffot Tankers are regular welt?

AoM verision is a reverse welt, Leffot is a flat welt.

I'm also looking for recommendations on a waterproof/protectant spray? I know of Saphir Super Invulner, but I was wondering if there was anything more readily available (such as on Amazon).

Love these! Gotta a pair myself about a year ago. Alden snuff suede is top notch. They are my most comfortable pair of boots.

Last minute business meeting in Phoenix AZ and I just realized that Randy the Cobbler is from Tempe. This works out great because I can meet the man and drop off my gum afflicted Naval boots. I'll take this opportunity to change to brass eyelets. :slayer:

Need your Advice

For years I have been looking for a pair of cigar cordovan LWB in size 13D. I finally found them New w/o box on eBay and took the plunge. When they arrive led I was distressed to find that they did not appear to match (the right one is noticably lighter on the top than than left on the top of the shoe). I paid well over market value for these, and am happy to do that but was not banking on two mismatched shoes.

My question is: do it keep them ? Will the patina generated with wear cause them to match better ?

I really appreciate your help.

Please help me with a sizing question. If I measure a 9E on the branock and can often wear a 9.5D as well, would I be secure in buying a 9D boot in Barrie?

I actually love the way those look, and I believe this to be a common occurrence with shell (someone correct me if I am wrong.) My color 8 974s are the same way. I would totally keep those, especially when considering how long it took you to find and acquire them. Wear them proudly.

I think you would be ok with the 9D barrie...for boots it will also depend ont he sock you wear. I go up 1/2 size for those boots in barrie/trubalance that I know are winter boots with thicker socks.  In fact it is the rare foot that even takes the same size as Branock in Barrie so it should def be fine...I measure an E width also and Barrie D is fine

Shoelover - 9D should be fine.

Prime - I would not keep the shoes with the hope that they will even out. I tried that and it didn't work for me. However, my first pair of cigars were pre owned and uneven but otherwise in great shape. I sent them to Alden for a recraft because I loved the shoes but couldn't live with the uneven shade. Alden called me and said they would refinish the shoes at no charge. They came back a little darker but looked great. That may be an option worth looking into considering the paucity of Alden cigar these days.

There will usually be some discrepancy in shell; and it usually looks great - your shoes are a perfect example
