Too tired to address everyone individually, but all are great. Mac won with the whiskey NST and Argyles. :-)

The Cigar NST has been offered by Madison on Aberdeen and TSM on Barrie.

The Whiskey LHS was just an old stock siting in the store they didn't get a new shipment or anything.

Cheers,
Mike

So yes, I think it's absurd to think that jcrew edited these photos and changed the shape. And since many people who have this particular boot have said that they feel the vamp is tighter than in their other Barrie shoes and boots, I think it makes a lot of sense to see if there's a difference by comparing the photos. And as these photos show, there is a difference that is consistent with a tighter vamp.

Working in Marketing for a very large internet retailer with our own in-house creative and photography teams, I can tell you that most people overestimate the amount of retouching that gets done.  They don't necessarily "photoshop the pics to make them look better so the customer is more enticed to buy".  Photoshopping implies changing or manipulating the subject within the actual image to look different.  You photoshop a unibrow on someone, you don't photoshop product photography.  Retouching (which is what is actually done) is a very different objective.  Retouching is typically done to optimize coloring, highlight important parts of the product and clip out anything around the product from the studio environment.  If you're ever in the Philadelphia area, I can give you a tour of our facility and show you exactly what is done.

The two barrie lasts in the examples provided are quite obviously different.  Messing with colors won't change that.  The only thing I will say is that the shots aren't taken from an identical angle, so that may make for a little bit more of a dramatic affect.  The show looks like it's taken from maybe 3-4 degrees higher which will look bulkier.  I still think it's larger.

The one selfish plus that I took from this discussion was the guy that was saying he is a C-width in Barrie and wishes the combination last was A/D not either A/C or B/D because the heel is too wide.  That's EXACTLY how I feel in barrie shoes.  I need a C-width in a LWB but my 9.5D barrie boots fit perfectly.

Nice boots!  Actually, I wouldn't hesitate wearing them with those chinos at all!  Nice work.

That's why I reached out to Alden about it - because I wanted find out what the truth is, and to confirm that the boot does not get any special treatment from Alden.
I think the bottom line is that the boot ought to be tried on to gauge fit. There are enough with fit issues that it isn't just internet heresy. You went on a tirade about it, which you've done before when people disagree with you. I'm not trying to be rude, just bring to your attention that not everyone will have the same experience or opinions as you. That's ok and it's why we're all here. If we agreed on everything I'd never need to hear from any of you. Apologies on the "asinine" comment. I should have chosen less aggressive terminology.

The pair of J Crew punch cap toe boots I have definitely feel different than most other Barrie lasted shoes and boots. But it's far from enough of a difference that I (emphasis on I) would feel the need to get a different size.
I should point out that this punch cap toe (from Epaulet) feels even tighter, but not enough different that I would get a different size. People's feet are a continuous function and one is trying to get a stepping function (shoe size) to fit so to speak. It doesn't surprise me at all that someone who is near the border between sizes would need to size differently for the J Crew boot.

Dude you should stop by just because!  Chip will be out again after the SEMA show in November.  He's unveiling some Pantera he just built and then coming to Philly again for some video face time for us.  Full disclosure... he's a Trickers boot guy.

This was informative and interesting.  Thank you.  On a separate note -- regardless of how these fit -- I don't feel like my JCrew PCT boots EVER looked the same as the ones in the picture from a side profile.  Those look worn to me, maybe very worn.  I could be wrong - but if I'm not, perhaps that makes a difference as well.

That's probably very true.  They look super sleek from the side and that may be after being well broken in.
