Barrie size perfect fit. Definitely fits smaller than other Barrie boots in same size. If your someone who is put off my the voluminous Barrie last and require a c width, this d width boot may be the answer

do you get 8.5D in all your Barrie boots, or only the jcrew pct?  also, do you have a high instep?

Here is Alden's reply to me regarding the sizing difference.

"Thank you for your message.
The shoes are all made the same.
Please keep in mind Pattern can make a difference in fit."

Namor, did you get these in your TTS size or your standard Barrie size?  if standard Barrie size, did they loosen up?

whatever the reason, my normal barrie size was not wearable in the j crew boot.  next size up is a little roomy, but that's ok.  i have several other barrie shoes and boots and the j crew pct is the only one that feels tight on me in 9.5D - it feels like a 9.5C. all feet are different.  to dismiss a large group of experiences as "hogwash" because your experience was different is self-centered and asinine.

Thanks. TSM had a couple of extra pairs leftover last October so I snagged a pair. They are significantly different in color vs my Whiskey NST's.

No, what's asinine is believing that either J.Crew is lying about what last the boot is on or that Alden is going out of its way to make the boots smaller or narrower for J.Crew.

You heard it straight from the horse's mouth - Alden doesn't do anything differently on the J.Crew boot. Different patterns may fit some folks differently, but that doesn't mean that the J.Crew boot is somehow an outlier in that regard. Yet, somehow the PCT boot alone has gotten a reputation for being "different" in sizing from any other Alden shoe/boot, which I do not believe is accurate. Once the internet picks up a rumor or a few folks are like "oh, me too!" it spirals out of control and somehow becomes "common knowledge", when it's actually very misleading. And then, confirmation bias influences folks who haven't broken in their boots yet to think "oh no, they're too small, I should have listened to the internet".

Even if the J.Crew PCT does fit a handful of people differently by virtue of it being a different pattern from other boots/shoes, it should not be treated any differently from other models, which may have the same inherent variance in how people size it due to pattern differences. If pattern differences are the root cause behind this so-called debacle, then every pattern would have a few outlier folks who would feel the need to change width or length within the same last (even though many of us, including myself, have never experienced that level of variance). And yet, you never hear about folks who take different sizes in the 975 vs the 990, or at least there isn't some nebulous "consensus" that a particular pattern fits smaller than others.

Side note - if the next size up (i.e. TTS) was a little roomy, then you've just confirmed my point - your correct size was your normal Barrie size, and you just didn't break the boots in. Maybe the pattern results in a tougher break in (perhaps the added cap-toe layer results in a tougher vamp break in than on a different pattern) process, but that only serves to reinforce the point that the boots are the same size and shaped over the same last as any other, and that going TTS on Barrie (whether J.Crew PCT or other boots) is not the "consensus" or recommended approach.

There have been some good points made on both sides here. Unfortunately nobody will remember any of them when somebody else asks about the sizing of JCrew PCT boots two weeks from now. Let me share my own personal experience with that. I find they fit me in my normal Barrie size. Not sure about the rest of you.

The irony is that the PCT boot is so easy to get, and J.Crew has such a good return policy that this is basically a non-issue. Sure, if we were talking about sizing of a rarely run model in a rare shell from some vendor with a terrible return policy, then it could actually matter, but the J.Crew PCT boot is (a) run all the time, and (b) easily returnable and exchangeable for a different size.

The issue is even more moot now that TSM is running a version on the Grant last. I wonder if folks will say that fits 1/2 size too small too - gotta size up by 1/2 from TTS for that bad boy... but I digress...

^ high five

Another "Barrie lasted shoe that feels like it fits smaller than other Barrie lasted shoes" is the unlined Dover and the nst boot. But I already felt like the Barrie in d with was too big. So these are just nice alternatives if c width Barrie is not easily attainable in other Barrie models
