I always thought the difference in sizing between the J Crew PCT and other shell Barrie lasted boots was due to the flat welt vs the more typical reverse welt on shell offerings.

It doesn't make sense for Alden to have a different version of the same last for other retailers, as that defeats the whole purpose of lasted footwear.

I to had to use my TTS size on the JCrew model, and the fit is perfect.

I have heard people say the same for the Leffot NST shell boot, also on a flat welt. I'll know for sure when I get mine from the most recent pre-order.

Easy solution is to stop buying the JCrew Barrie Jr. version and pick up the PCT in Grant. Better fit. Better looking.

Grant last is not my cup of tea

Curious @JSO1 how do you size barrie last to your brannock size?

Generally, I just go 1/2 size down from Brannock (8.5D) to Barrie (8D).

However, I do find that Barrie has a very wide heel, which causes heel slip in shoes (not so much in boots, obviously). All of my Barrie shoes/boots are 8D except my 975, which is 8C. I have tried 8C in the 975 and found that to be a better fit on my heel. It's snugger across the toes and vamp, obviously, but once it gets broken in the 8C works also.

In an ideal world, I would need the combination last to be A/D instead of A/C or B/D (the standard combinations).

Other Alden lasts - Aberdeen (8.5D), Plaza (8.5D), Hampton (8.5D), 379X (8D), Grant (8.5D).

Thanks and thanks for the other lasts info - very helpful. I go a full size down for barrie from my Brannock sizing - i am trying out a new to me aberdeen in 12E to see how that fits. Should be here soon

I have the J Crew PCT and other Barrie lasted boots. I feel that the J Crew PCT fits just like any other Barrie lasted boot. It does feel tight on the vamp when new. It feels exactly like the Leffot Naval boot. I said this before... I think most people are getting a larger size because the J Crew only comes in a D width. They are fixing a width issue by adding length, which I think is CRAZY!

I have been comparing my Barrie lwb to the jcrew pct boot. I have them both in the same size but the boots are definitely tighter in the vamp. The length is fine. How much should I expect the vamp area to loosen up?

I felt the vamp and the shoe overall became more comfortable after a few outings ~5. This is just my experience with the particular boot.

My experience is that ALL Alden Boots fit tighter across the vamp and ball than the same last in a shoe.

Except for the JCrew PCT boot on the super secret modified Barrie/non-Barrie/pseudo-Barrie last. Right!

I emailed Leffot about the 8 Tankers recently and their response was as @tifosi says that they don't get updates from Alden (they just show up), but their guess/estimate was "hopefully some time in November"

Is it possible the JCrew boot is really a Grant last?

I just realized I am wearing them now.. lol. Are there markings inside the boot that states its last?

Ok, here it is.

Mickey Drexler had a good friend growing up named Barry. They had a big falling out in college. Ever since then Mickey has not been a fan of that name -- even when its spelled Barrie.

Thus, when the boot was commissioned, Mickey said "NO WAY IN SAN DIEGO am I using the Barrie last for this boot. Make something different. I want the Bart last. Make it bigger, smaller, I don't care. Just don't make it on the Barrie"

Alden Rep 1 to Alden Rep 2: Did he say make it smaller?

Alden Rep 2: Yeah, I guess so.

And the Bart last was born. 1/4 size smaller than his big brother Barrie.

I know whats really happening...the night before you wear your Alden xJCrew PCT's the boot gnomes come while you are in a deep sleep and sprinkle a tiny bit of their special gnome dust on your PCT's so as to make you slightly uncomfortable and bewildered the next day...all the while they watch on...giggling with gnomish glee...

he,he,he,he,he,he,he,he.....he,he,he,he......

Also just want to add.. I am interested in this topic because I followed the advice and bought the PCT boot in TTS. I have since purchased the right size and have sold the TTS (shown on my sig).
