Hey all! Looking to dive into the deep end with some Aldens and pick up a pair of the classic Colour 8 straight cap toe boots.

Just wondering how you go guys keep on top of custom make ups that the various alden stores release.

I had a chance to stop in at Alden Madison recently to try on their version, but I've really fallen for the brass hardware from Franz (which are surprisingly still available in my size.) But, after seeing the recent custom alterations posted by Saz, I thought I'd see if anybody is aware of a similar makeup without having to go through customization.

I might come around to the hooks on the Franz, or I might just pick up Alden Madison's pair send them out.  Either way, looking forward to my first pair and appreciate all the inspirations here!

I believe Alden is no longer going to offer brass eyelets and color 8. What's out there now is the last of what they will make from the factory like that, going forward someone will have to convert them for you. It was discussed extensively a few weeks back, essentially it sounds like it's a pain in the ass for them and they are tired of dealing.

Thanks, so it's basically to accommodate an insert of some kind.

Thanks for the info BBB. I did see Franz had a note about that in the listing, meant to ask about that but I see the prior discussion the thread now. Shame because the color 8 looks killer with the brass eyelets! I may 'settle' for the franz parajumper after all then and learn to love the 'hooks.

In the event I opt for custom, I know of Randy and Sublime, but are there any reputable options in NYC for brass and antique edging?

I have a pair of these, and they're awesome. Shame the sizing isn't working out for you.

Unrelated, but can someone outline the process to determine what year a model was made (based off the identification information in the inside of the shoe/boot. Just curious how old a couple of my pairs are.

Thanks in advance!

My AoM Cigar captoes (which I'm wearing today) bloom like crazy, as well. It seems to be a recent-batch-of-Cigar thing.

A classic boot - looks good with the denim.

I sort of regret passing on a pair of Cigar Indy boots when I had the chance.

Wow, the brownvello really is brown. Looks good with the contrasting piping (which usually is closer to the normal Ravello shade, no?). Nice denim, too - details?
