I don't know how exactly, but B Nelson in NYC does it so can only imagine that others do too.

Curious how many of you gents are seeing newer cigar offerings concerning bloom? My AoM cigar captoe on barrie bloom like crazy, as do my recently received cigar LWB on antique, also from AoM. My cigar PTB shoe (not sure from where) exhibits none.

Unrelated, but can someone outline the process to determine what year a model was made (based off the identification information in the inside of the shoe/boot. Just curious how old a couple of my pairs are.

Thanks in advance!

I'd advocate for the Leffot version. I waited nearly two years for them to come around - but they are worth the wait. Aberdeen is sleek, and the design is exactly what I wanted. That said, it will be a wait as they just restocked these. Love your tumblr by the way!

Firstly, thank you for the nice words on my somewhat neglected Tumblr. An unexpected and welcome surprise.

I love the Leffot version and am wondering if the 11 would work....I am on the big side of 10.5 US...

KDubs,

I have four new Cigars (from 2015). The Cigar CT Boots are blooming like mad. My Cigar SW Bluchers and SW Boots are blooming some. My Cigar NST loafers aren't blooming much (yet).

For reading the numbers inside the shoes, see here.

Aberdeen definitely runs big. For reference, I wear 7.5 UK in Carmina, 8.5 in Barrie and 9 in Aberdeen. The Aberdeen fit well but are definitely roomier than my Carminas.

As for your tumblr, I like the fact that you load a bunch of images at once rather than a drip-drop day-by-day. And the quality of the images is so good.

We were talking about this in here within the last week or so if you want to venture back.  Essentially, everyone is seeing a ton of bloom with Cigar models in the past 6 months or so.  The DC Cigar Cap Toe boots that I have bloom like crazy.  The Cigar Wing Tip boots from AoM bloom a decent amount.  The Cigar Indy from last Fall/Winter does not bloom very much at all.  It's probably just a bloom-happy bit of shell that they've been using.  It's not super concerning and should brush right off.  I had one spot bloom so much it almost looked like a water stain but brushed out in 30 seconds.  It actually sounds as if it might be a symptom of healthy shell.

This page will help you with your determining when a model was made.  That being said, it will only tell you the last digit of the year, so you'll have to make an educated guess as to whether a shoe was produced in 2015, 2005, 1995, 1985, etc. http://aldenofsandiego.com/alden-faq/miscellaneous/

edit: @mdubs covered this a few replies above!

lovely boot and love the purple color. im warming to the speedhooks but they dont agree with my ankle crossing habit. today i nearly feel out of my chair at work because one of the laces wrapped around the hook of opposite boot

Thanks - looking for leather sole if possible. Leffot / Shoe Mart are the closest so far and both cheaper than Frans Boone. Shoe Mart no speed hooks, Leffot only size up available....getting close, so close.

Thanks!  Purple boots with a purple shirt today!

Hahaha, I haven't had the speedhooks cause that issue yet, but I can see how they could.  I cross my right ankle over my left every once in a while.  I'll have to take note of if it ever gets stuck.  I have had the speed hook get caught on the opening of the pant leg once as I was getting up from sitting.  That was an interesting one!  I probably looked like I had a Charlie Horse.

Leffot snuff suede cooney boot is Aberdeen last. If you are 10.5 US in barrie you probably need 11 US in Aberdeen.
