Want to ask a question of the group. Would you sell these if you had a pair of the J Gilbert #8 wingtip boots on Plaza with flat welt, dark edges, hooks, and on commando coming in Jan/Feb? My work environment is short of suits but formal and I wear suits when I travel once or twice per month. All boots in the stable are:
1) black shell cap toes on double leather grant last,
2) cigar indy on commando turbulence last,
3) cigar cap toes on commando grant last,
4) snuff plain toes on commando plaza last,
5) cxl indy on cork
6) #8 Brixtons pictured on double leather barrie last, and
7) doak w/ country calf on danite (not Alden!!).

So is having the #8 Brixtons and the #8 plaza last wing tip boots too much overlap? I am trying to keep my collection to a reasonable level.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Two variables that make this tough. Where do you live? If you're in a location with a reasonably cold winter, I don't think there is much overlap. The plaza seems to be more appropriate for your work dress code. IMO, the brixton is strictly casual. I threw a topy on my brixtons and they were my favorite footwear with denim.

I know this is not one of the options you presented but if I were in your position and was determined to follow the one-in, one-out approach, I would consider moving one of the cigar's. I sold my brixtons about a year ago due to fit. It still pains me when I see a pair posted on SF. It was easily my most versatile and complimented shoe.

I went out with the family today in the Natty CXL Indys.  Every time I put these things on I'm just amazed how comfortable they are, how great they look with jeans and how much I just plain like walking around in them.

From trying them on at Alden of SF out of politeness and a vague curiosity, to a snap purchase of the first pair of leather boots of my life, immediately out to ten days as a nearly every-day shoe on a business trip overseas to now when I find myself looking for excuses to wear them, these Indy's have been great and are already my favorite shoes I've ever owned.

They're damn hard to get a good picture of though, so this is from Day 1.

One of these days Epaulet will probably get some of my money for their Innsbruck edition of these boots, though I want a ravello NST to fill a slot in my rotation before I re-buy this shoe.

Just a Sunday thought...

If the NST's were Cigar or Ravello... (heck - even brown CXL)

Gilbert WT boot is on Plaza and dark edge raising its formality, in my opinion, relative to the Brixton.  I think you could easily convince yourself that the J. Gilbert will see sufficient wearings as part of the rotation given its greater formality and commando sole.  Also, adding a color 8 on commando I think would add versatility.  You may opt for the J. Gilbert makeup while traveling to locations with more inclement weather (snow and/or rain) compared to when you would wear the Brixton with its double leather sole.  Anyway, I think that is how I would wear them differently.  I do personally like the J. Gilbert WT as well as the to be delivered color 8 WT on Grant that Yenni is adding from B&M.  Though her offering I believe has antique edging as well.  Oh well, I hope this is the biggest problem you have all week:cheers:
No doubt a good problem to have!

DV, thanks. Maybe I'll wait to see the J Gilbert's before deciding.

I'm in Chicago, so I see a lot of cold wintery weather. For me, the Brixtons are one of my best fitting boots. But I jumped on the J Gilbert order because Plaza looks amazing with the WT boot.

Thanks all for your thoughts.

Of course shoes that are worn will develop creases. However when the trees are in, shouldn't the trees provide enough tension to flatten the creases while they are in?

In my experience, they don't. If you want to flatten the creases maybe you can try "Mike Method" (http://aldenofsandiego.com/caring-for-your-shell-cordovan/) which is developed by @mdubs.

Just want to add that the JGilbert WT boot on Plaza actually also will have antique edges, not dark. This has been confirmed by Adam at AoC. Not sure if that will influence your decision.

Those are a lovely shade of Ravello. Where did this pair come from?

Thanks!  They are from Alden of Carmel's last run of them; no store stamp on the insole though.

Haha, yes, shortly after converting one pair to a "brassvello" I scooped up another pair of ravello LWB's from the B&S... so nice, I had to buy twice ;)

Trousers are wool donegal J.Crew Bowery's from last year

Heh, very nice. I also have two Ravello LWBs, one of which I'm selling (link in my sig). I converted it to Dainite, but don't find myself wearing the pair, as my other pair is a Leffot makeup on antique, and I like the antique edge with leather more than the double/triple Dainite setup.
