nice!  what last is that on?  (also what does "king" refer to?)

I see most Alden sellers sell Alden shoe trees.  Are they all the same?  If so, do they work for all Alden lasts?  It's kind of hard to imagine using the same tree for say an Aberdeen lasted shoe and a Barrie or Trubalance.

Mac - do you only wear shell?  what are your thoughts on the dark brown calf LWB from Jcrew that I posted earlier?

Very nice looking Shortwings. Interesting makeup. Pretty close to the Leffot Suede LWB.

Looking good in two very great and classic models. The Color 8 Tassel is superb and the foxing is a nice addition. Your Black LHSes are great.

Yeah, I have a pair of Brand New Oxblood 2's. I really like them, but not sure I can pull them off.

Mac, your King WT Boots are looking superb. A great combination with your Argyles and khakis. Very nice shine and the plaza last is just such a beautiful last.

Alden uses Split Toe Trees. They are not lasted and expand to fit the form of the shoe. Work well, but lasted would ideally be better. But that comes at a much greater cost... and Alden does not offer them.

Thanks.  In that case does it matter if I use a different brand's split toe tree in my Aldens, say Allen Edmonds split tree?

The unbranded trees are available here  http://www.onecedarlane.com/products.php?catid=2

Cobblers and DIY'rs will sand down trees for a better fit to specific pairs of shoes.

To add to McArthur's reply to this question, color 8 is sometimes referred to as king because it is such a versatile color. It's the king of shell!
