Congrats!

September is the best month in the mountains! No crowds, fewer bugs, still nice weather.

Love your pic of the muddy AF53s. Seems like a great candidate for Adams boot of the day picture. Perhaps a before/after?

Amazing timing, I just gave my sunbleached AF53s some much-needed love today as well. Saphir Reno Mat, Renovateur, and Alden Leather Defender.

I am going to be buying a suede longwing and suede loafer soon. I prefer flex welt because I have a pair of Indy's and like the sole better then leather. Question is will flex welt work well with wool trousers? How about suits? Basically which sole is more versatile.

I live in LA and I don't think theres a brick and morter. Who should I order from so that if I need to change 1/2 size up or down I can do it easily?

Flex welt sole IS a leather sole, albeit a heavily oiled one that is generally, as the name says, more flexible than the regular leather sole.  There is no reason the sole will not work with wool trousers.  It isn't as dressy as regular leather but very few people out there are going to notice this and it won't matter outside of very formal occasions.  Suede footwear wouldn't be appropriate for those occasions.  For the most part, nor would loafers or longwing bluchers.

So while the flex welt isn't all that different from the regular leather in terms of its appropriateness/versatility, the issue is more of whether suede longwings and suede loafers are appropriate for suits.  Casually, and if done well, I'd say "maybe".  If you want to wear them in a more formal context, the style and the material are both cutting against you in terms of formality.

I figured if Bruce Boyer only wore suede shoes for all his occasions its good enough for all of my occasions. For the most formal of occasions like weddings I have a pair of Allen Edmonds captoes.

Cigar captoe boots on their second outing. They bloom like crazy in between wearings. Don't have any other shell that is so bloom-happy (and I have a lot of shell...).

Unionmade carries a decent selection of Alden. Definitely worth trying on in person if you are new to the brand.
