thanks for reply. I take some clear picture of my boot.

Do you guys think that it is some kind of problem arise from the tanning process?

All of my other shell cordovan shoes dont have this problem..Shall i ask leffot to send it back to factory to refinish it? Cause under sun light i found that quite a lot of area (Even toe area) of my shoes suffered from this problem. Thanks!

Hi everyone. I recently ordered 2 pairs of Aldens from Jcrew: the dark brown calf longwing and the perforated captoe boot in color 8. According to the jcrew descriptions these are both shaped over the Barrie last. However, in trying them on, the boots definitely feel a bit snugger than the shoes. I put them both with their heels against a straight wall and I can see clearly that the shoe is longer than the boot. I'm wondering if jcrew may have the boots listed incorrectly as Barrie?
See pic:

Can anyone share any insight on this?

you should ignore the edge and compare them start from the cordovan area, as the lwb made with storm welt and boot is flat welt. Many people shared barrie boot is snug than shoes before, it is normal.

Thanks.  However, even ignoring the edge, it appears to me that the cordovan area is a bit smaller on the boot.  And based on what you are saying about many people experiencing the barie boot to be more snug, then it seems likely that the barrie boot is indeed slightly smaller that the barrie shoe.  Is there any explanation for this?

These pictures from j crew show the difference between a 360 degree welt and a 270, and why you can't do a heel to toe length comparison on the sole. That being said, regardless of the last, I usually feel like boots feel slightly tighter than shoes shaped over the same last.

I just can't bring myself to spoiler any of these. If I get the opportunity to purchase a #4 boot in the future, it would be my instant Alden grail!

Nice work guys!

Congrats, what did you get? I have 3 on order also.

Short story:  Some calf wingtip boots and a pre-order for some snuff-suede wingtip boots.

Here's the really long story:

After getting the Natty CXL Indy's I realized that while I LOVE them with jeans they are only OK for me with most of my current chinos/etc. (brown CXL might have been a better choice for that purpose in retrospect, but really love the color and emerging patina in nat CXL).  I decided I wanted another pair in my rotation that could dress up or down and could handle a bit of rain/etc.  I made a post here, and Adam put me in touch with Yenni (they're both awesome) saying they might have a boot that fit the bill.  This picture from B+M made my heart beat faster:

Dress up?  Check - awesome with chinos/khakis/etc.

Dress down?  Check - they eyelets and exposed stitching along the welt makes it a bit less dressy, and I'm pretty sure great with jeans.

Handle a bit of weather?  Yup - Commando Soul

I contacted Yenni, and unfortunately my size isn't in.  And they aren't planning to run that makeup until around this time next year.  Arg.  I'm not that patient, and my longwings (from another maker) took a bit of a hit in the rain recently.

So I searched.  A lot.  I hit all of the various "Aden of..." stores (I thought), Leather Soul, Leffot, Frans Boone, ShoeMart, J Crew, NeedsSupply, UnionMade, jGilbert, the Bureau Belfast, Hanig's, Bensilver, Context, Lithic, Epaulet, and many others.  Nobody had quite that style.  Alden of SF had one that was close, but oiled leather sole and no visible stitch on the welt:

Michael in the SF store (who also helped me with my Indy's, and who I blame entirely for the damage done to my credit card over the last month) was nice enough to send me a photo he took of the boot in stock.  I almost ordered it, but I really preferred the visible stitch.   I decided to wait, think about it and keep searching.

In the meantime, Yenni mentioned they had pretty much the same design, exposed stitch and all, in Snuff Suede:

So that pretty much decided that.  Except they are at the pre-order stage and won't be here until early Spring.  And while these handled the "dress down" in awesome fashion (better than the ones I was searching for), they don't do the "dress up" quite as well.

So now I've talked myself into TWO pairs of boots.  And I'm still hunting for something close to the calf boots.  I strongly considered the Leffot Greenwhich boot, which is essentially what I want in the Alpine Brown pebbled/scotch leather and with brass hardware that I liked a lot:

But on top of also being a pre-order, I just don't have a great feeling about how the textured leather will age, suffer scratches and wear.  Kept searching.  I found a few 11.5 D boots that might have been a decent substitute for the suede boots, but none of them turned my head from the snuff, and I still didn't want to wait a year for the boot I really wanted.

After all of the searching (and to be honest, to say I was obsessed isn't much of a stretch, if any.  This post is my admission of my problem), I somehow hit the perfect combination of search terms, and Alden of Madison had this photo on their site:

That's pretty much exactly my boot, right down to the commando sole.  Of course they won't have it in my size.  I almost reluctantly called them this morning, fully expecting them to laugh a little when I asked if they had an 11.5 D.

They did.  And they're on the way now!

I'm really happy, and can't wait to see them.  All of the obsession has now subsided, and I'm hoping I can keep it at bay for a while in anticipation of the snuffs. :)

(apologies for the very long post - this was a catharsis... ;) )

It has been my experience that LWBs are slightly longer than other Barrie lasted shoes and boots.

The 4065 on the Grant is pretty common... DC does them with hooks and on the Commando. SF does the 4075 on Barrie with Hooks and Double Leather.

Thanks Mike. I'm looking for the captoe boot in black shell or calf, specifically on Barrie and specifically with black metal eyelets. I cannot seem to find that combo anywhere.
