Got home from a week of work travel to a new/used addition to the fam. Adding more non-shell Alden's in the mix. Dark tan (calfskin) WT boot x TSM.

Come to think of it, this is my first calfskin Alden; all others are shell or suede

Here's a photo on feet (excuse the dye bleeding of my jeans):

Needless to say, a pair of AE Walnut shell Daltons will be for sale soon

It is somewhat crazy to think of replacing a Shell Cordovan Boot with a Calfskin Boot, but this picture totally reinforces my preference towards the proportions of the Alden Boot.

Yeah, I know what you mean, and ideally I'll get lucky and can upgrade the calfskin pair to a Ravello pair ;)

Agree 100% on the proportions preferences of the Alden WT boot, which is the main reason.  Plus I plan to wear these more casually and I think the Alden pairs better with denim

My shell daltons are still in the box, honestly wont probably wear them. The wingtip/vamp ratio is just off.

Well done! Those boots look great. Shell is fantastic, but calf is vastly under-appreciated in these parts. There are plenty of occasions where I feel that shell is too shiny, especially since I work in a much more casual office environment. The lower price point and availability are also pros.

Nice! I'm considering some very similar boot, but eyelet/hooks. Thanks for the useful real-world preview!

I understand. I keep my shoe budget (or lack thereof) pretty quiet too.

Those calfskins are great, I really love Alden's tan and brown shades of calf, I prefer them over whiskey shell.

Of course I totally disagree on the wing pattern but you made a nice addition

I gotta agree with Mike here. Although the Alden WT boot pattern is better, you'll likely never seen walnut shell again. Is your pair unlined? If so, you won't see that again either. I'd keep the Daltons for sure.
