Agree with both these guys. I also have the J Crew PCT which I wear with just about anything from jeans to wool slacks. I think the Grant lasted TSM version would work just as well.

I have the AE Chili edge dressing. It works fine. But I've actually switched to using the Alden Tan shoe polish. Works well for me.

Hey guys, quick question for those of you that own a shoe on the Leydon last.

I'm in between a true size 8 and 8.5 on the brannock device, which means I usually stick to 7.5 in my boots and shoes with elongated lasts (Vibergs, Alden Indys, AE 5 last, etc..).

However, I found a pair of snuff suede chukkas in 8.5e in the Leydon last for a great price. Now I'd usually go 8e in these, but this price was amazing considering how long I've been looking for a pair of these for less than $520. Think I should pull the trigger? I usually like my shoes fitting pretty snug. Think I would have any heel slip in the 8.5e?

does alden have any TX retailers?

Question for you gents...I am a full go casual dress mostly cords, chinos, some casual tweed etc and some of my boots sort of do not really go that great to my eye with those pants. For the fall and spring I tend to wear my dress pants on the nicer days-normally I dumb the pants down with something as simple as an untucked dress shirt or long sleeve polo.

Anyone have any other suggestions that work well with dress pants? I have all types of shades and textures of pants. Again looking to take the dress pant to a more casual place as opposed to chucking them all out or donating them.

It might be helpful to know what boots you currently have that you don't care for with the trousers in question to give us an idea of what you don't like.

I have a few pair of boots that I find work really well with my casual trousers and also don't look too out of place with dress trousers: black shell chukka boot, #8 wingtip boot, alpine grain wingtip boot. I know there are many folks who wouldn't agree with any boots with a dress trouser but it rarely bothers me. Maybe if I worked in a more formal environment or was wearing an actual suit everyday I'd feel differently.

You sound like a similar size a me. 7.5d Barrie and 7.5 Viberg but can do the AE 5 last in a 8d or even 8.5d, 1 last in 8.5d because of a higher instep. I went with an 8E in the Leydon and its one of my best fitting pairs.

If it's that good of a deal give the 8.5e a try and you could always resell them. It might be ok because it's such a narrow last.

Might have to give this a try. I have a pair of Lindrick boots that needed kind of a brown transparent edge dressing, I tried the AE chili but it turned out to be a bit too red.

Yes, the AE Chili Edge is for a different darker edge. Don't recommend it on an Alden Antique Edge unless you want to darken and redden the edge.

@Michigan Planner

Nice pairings...my AE mto boots and vass boot that go better with dress pants which to me are classic lightweight pants that are similar to suit pants. I will post an example of the boots that are morebpointed in the toe. So my alden barrie and trubalance, vibergs, AE B34 lasts and a few others go great with my chunky clothes.

I have no dress code at my office as it is just me so even tucking in shirts is a bit much...lol.

The untucked dress shirts work ok with my dress pants but they just arent that comfortable so thats why i am trying to find something else shirt wise that works with the pants.

Mr.situated ....i will offer a descenting opinion. If it doesn't fit the price doesn't matter. Insoles and toungue pads can only do so much.

I'd give it a shot, but the hassle of reselling is honestly a turn-off for me. Maybe 8E in the leydon is best for me too.

Agreed. Come to think of it, I don't really fit 8.5 in anything but Nikes and basketball shoes.

Thanks for the opinions guys!

I brannock about a 8.8 or 8.9 and wear an 8.5.

I use this exact method as well.

I've tried the AE chili edge dressing and while it works in a pinch, I find the color to be a bit off (too much red perhaps?). Walnut or Brown cream polish sealed with paste wax polish or natural/clear edge trim looks much better IMO.
