Love the Suede WTB and PTB's, but those Lined Jet Black LHS's are really great looking .. Underrated Alden model. Waiting for the weather to cool down to start wearing mine. I think the Lined iteration has a more substantial sole and overall construction. CLASSIC shoe Mike! Good pairing with socks and trouser.

I'm really feeling the Leffot navy boots pre-order. Only thing holding me back is the crepe sole. Is anyone else running these with a different sole?

Not the exact same, but B+M has an all-eyelet, non-brass version on an oiled leather sole: http://brickmortarseattle.com/shoes.html

Thanks, I'll check them out!

Those are on Plaza last and stunning. First blue boot I've wanted.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if black would look right against Color # 8. Is there anything magical magical about AE,, or will any edge dressing do? I have some black Fiebing's I got from my grandparents that dates from the 70s or 60s.

On the soles, any reason not to use boot oil or Obenauf's to protect against water and salt?

I thought if you used any AE product on any alden shoe/boot the crossing of the streams would result in shoe combustion.

The Shoe Mart has them with an oiled leather sole on the Barrie. With brass eyes & hooks.

2210's for me today.

Classics never get old.

Speaking of classics, doesn't get much better than the 990. These look great. Any info on the denim?

Well done. I like that the stitching is white and not caked with polish.

Thank you all for the time you took to respond to a newbie to this thread and Alden's!  Just to share, in addition to this purchase, I also have the Alden x Jcrew snuff chukka, LS Ultimate Indy, #966 from AoM (one width too narrow) and #990 (one width too narrow) as well as the reverse chamois wingtip boot from Yenni at B&M on order.  After considering the thoughtful input as well as the difficulty in obtaining the shoe in the near term, Will has already processed the FedEx package and I'll have the LS shoe on Wednesday!  While the shoe is definitely more casual I think it will most importantly get worn often - plus the wife really liked it!  The second reason I went with this shoe is that it will "force" me to potentially purchase the AF79 from Adam sooner.  Best of both worlds!  Shame no one said just get them both!

Others will probably have more educated thoughts :P

I have the #8 PTB already as well as some others which I failed to specifically note in my initial post, but have done so above.  The LS one appears to be harder to obtain hence, my decision plus it leaves room open for a WT boot with dark edging and welt!

Great observation and gave me a chance to sit back with a scotch Saturday night and think it through.  I think both will work, depending upon meetings and travel schedule and forced me to take a good look at my existing shoes.  I think the LS version will fit in nicely, and keep open the door for a shoe that is perhaps easier to obtain as noted above.  Thank you for the time to comment!

It's likely just me but I would not wear antique edge with a suit. Slacks and a jacket, but not a suit. Since it sounds like a slack and jacket is about as formal as you get at work, I really think it is a matter of personal preference.

You really can't go wrong either way. Both are great shoes.

Appreciate it Shawnc!  I agree that the LS version is more casual and full disclosure I tend to adhere with the traditional thought that a blucher is not for a suit so I really would only wear it with trousers and an odd jacket.  While this is a bit old fashioned, it's something to which I have recently tried to adhere, plus it means I need to buy more shoes!

I have the #8 longwing from AoC with the dark edging and commando sole and I wear them quite a bit. Even wore them with a suit a few weeks ago. For versatility and occasional traditional business dress I would go with the AoC model with the dark edge. Either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I truly loved the dark edging for a more formal business look, and agree either way I would be happy.  Looking for a boot version now with that aesthetic.  Thanks!

They are more formal with the black edges and the Commando sole will be much better for your locality. Leather soles are not terribly good for rain and wear out faster when wet and don't have terribly good traction. If you do get the LeatherSoul version, you may want to consider adding Toppys.

Mike - thanks for taking the time to respond and for all your posts, pictures and website.  The love you have for these shoes, information you share, and manner in which you respond to long time and new posters really helped "enable" me!  As noted, I went with the LS version as the wife liked it, it seemed much more difficult to come by, but more importantly I currently have more opportunities to dress a bit more casual and so I think it will get a good amount of wear.  Further, I've already begun looking at a few versions of the AF79 which I think would deliver enough difference between the shoes for different environments.  I'll definitely consider Toppy's or hopefully, order a boot on commando soon which would also solve the problem in a more fun way!
