Could I get some sizing help?

I wear 9D in the C&J Marlow penny loafer, 8.5UK/9.5US in pretty much everything else. What size would you recommend for a suede tassel loafer on the Aberdeen last?

Thanks

Don, those are superb! Love them. Also good to see a pair of them actually out in the wild being used. ;-)

Actually, you would be impressed. I think the only pair that I have now had for a long time and not worn is my Color #2 LWBs. And even those, I have worn inside for sustained periods of time. They just haven't yet met cement or asphalt yet. I do have a few pairs that I recently picked up, they are just awaiting photo sessions before they get up. I have had a crazy busy summer. If you pay attention to the background in my IG photos, you will notice I have been on the road A LOT this summer. I will likely be photographing and wearing my Tan CC LWBs and Cigar Shortwing Bluchers this week. That is about all I have BNIB right now.

Welcome to the community and glad you rekindled your love. As you know better than the rest of us, perfect fit is absolutely essential.

Your new soles came out great and should be a good addition to your Color 8 Boots.

As I said before, all I am sitting on is the Color #2's. I have 4 pairs in queue for photography and then they will see their maiden voyages.

Boots - Same as above, especially if you are open to different deisgns: sw, indy, cap toe, etc

Edited to add- D width in 9-11 gives you the best chance. What size are you?

I actually disagree with the Whiskey. I am not sure when Whiskey will be received again. It could be tomorrow, it could be in 18 months. They usually use it all as soon as it comes in.

Good afternoon.  I am a long time reader, first time poster.  I am continually amazed by the assistance (and wit!) offered to new members of this forum.  I have some posts I would like to make and intend on doing so at my earliest convenience - inclusive of pictures smile.gif , but first I ask permission to impose upon you a question.  I am trying to decide on a cordovan #8 short wing blucher and both Alden of Carmel and Leathersoul has one with AoC being on commando with dark edging and LS on I think double leather with antique edging.  Props to Adam at AoC who has been unbelievably responsive.  No doubt Will at LS will be as well given the time difference, he certainly has been great in the past!  My intended purpose for the shoe is to be paired with trousers and an odd jacket in a work environment inclusive of business casual as well as traditional business dress.  Do the folks on this forum generally believe that the commando sole is appropriate for this type of use?  Additional information which may be useful is that I live in Florida and so the shoes will see a bit of rain, travel to main cities such as NY, Boston, Atlanta, DC, etc… and am in the banking profession, commercial currently not IB.

I appreciate the time you take to respond a new Alden fan!  BTW, DANG what an expensive, but great hobby!

Welcome to the club. A few things, please wear the shoes. ;-) I would recommend personally the AoCs for you. They are more formal with the black edges and the Commando sole will be much better for your locality. Leather soles are not terribly good for rain and wear out faster when wet and don't have terribly good traction. If you do get the LeatherSoul version, you may want to consider adding Toppys.

Really love the color on your pair, is that with just brushing or do you use any colored cordovan cream on them?

2nd outing actually. So nothing yet. I agree though the color is wonderful in any type of sunlight. It was a tad overcast out and they still show some color change. Direct sunlight they look almost ruby.

After 20+ years of wearing Allen Edmonds shoes (Park Avenue, Clark, & Bradley for wet weather), I finally sprung for a pair of Aldens, the 2160. They are fantastic--comfortable and great looking!!

What do I use to maintain the edges? I found #8 Paste Wax, but no corresponding edge dressing.

Glad that you decided to dabble in the Alden waters. The 2160 is a classy and very usable model. I am sure that you enjoy them. As stated, I use AE Black Edge dressing for my Aldens.
