restoration project

I found these two pairs on ebay. for cheap.
I got them back yesterday from the restoration and im very happy with the results. the #8 shell bounced back like new. the textured leather pair is much better than before and feel like new. I did not expect the leather pair to return so dark, but I really like the way they look on. The folks at alden even printed the model #s on the green boxes for the return, I thought that was a nice detail.
I asked around, no one seems to know much about the leather nsts. I think nsts are expensive to make, maybe they only do it for shell now.
These totally look like they are new. I'm making a mental note of this when it's time to have one of my shoes recrafted and balking on the wait. No one knows Alden the way Alden does. Thanks for sharing.

Don L: You are correct. Just the heel pad is replaced

I figured that is what you meant anyhow. :fistbump:

You'd think Ball & Buck would carry Alden. They carry only AMERICAN MADE items. They're located in the Back Bay neighborhood.

I know they did some AE special Neumora makeups, but no Alden.

They'd be the perfect Alden partner in Boston!

But yeah I can't believe they don't have a company store in Boston. It'd be like AE not having a store down the road from the factory in Chicago.

Seems as if Alden is having trouble keeping it's current retailers well stocked...

I destroyed a pair of modified captoe #8s this weekend in miami. I havent even taking them out of my luggage cause I'm afraid to survey the damage.

what's alden charge for e refurb :rotflmao: ? I may just send in for a resole and get the uppers restored cause I for sure beat the piss out of them

Photos please. Spoiler them though so Uncle Mac doesn't have to see the carnage.

They feel great.  These are on the Aberdeen last.  Thanks Spiff... Hope you're hitting'em long and straight!

RTP - so these are definitely not a BB version of the Alt Wein from Epaulet - different last. Great looking shoe - do you find the Aberdeen last a good fit?

2145 and 2146 = two of Alden's best models.

kwaker: Did the restoration involve any work on the interior ... e.g., replacement of the full-length leather insole or perhaps just the logo'd heel pad?

I'm also considering the purchase of pre-owned Aldens for restoration, but I don't want to be stuck with the original insole that may will have been soiled and imprinted by the previous owner.

The restoration will come with a new heel pad reading "Alden Restoration." The original insole will remain as is - imprint and all. I have had full restorations/recrafts done at Alden, AE, and BNelson, and none of them come with a new insole.

B Nelson can "flatten" out the old insole that had the prior owners imprint. You've got to talk to them beforehand. I'm not sure if "flatten" is the correct term. But, most resoles (from AE to the local cobbler) assume that you are the original owner of the shoes and will not mess with the insole and the imprint.
