How long is generally expected for a stock item to be special ordered and delivered from the factory? Or is there just no way of knowing?

If it's in stock at the warehouse, they ship it immediately. Otherwise DC/SF/retailers can generally reach out and check the status. They can estimate from that. Could be a few weeks, could be 8-16 weeks.

Thanks. It was a 975 color 8 in my nonstandard size (10.5 3E). I could just ask Kathy, but I didn't want to bug her. I was just trying to time a new shoe purchase with regards to funds availability. ;)

given the option, would you guys rather have a pair of 975 in traditional welt or antique welt?

I think it all depends on how formal you dress. Most people here seem to dress on the casual side..definitely antique. More conservative business dress..the regular welt. I originally wanted antique because I think it looks awesome but I found that the dark works better with my day to day attire.

Pepper, I would estimate that they take 4-6 months if not in either an Alden factory store or the Alden factory warehouse. Unless you get very lucky and they are already in production with one in your size in the run. Alden does special sizes via what they call "Add to Run", and they are semi-consistently running stock models to fulfill the demand. Once they reach a certain point, they start production again on them, which typically takes around 4 months.

Concur with this, but would also add whether or not you intend to also go Cigar. The Color 8 on Antique is pretty redundant with the Cigar LWB...

We see a lot of pristine shoes and boots on this thread. Good to see some beaten up models for a change. Nice work Ben!

Wow, very nice. I thought they were ravello, which is a pretty nice shade of cigar in my book.

what if you saw someone wearing a longwing across the hallway and he just walked by you quickly? much harder to recognize exactly what it is. ditto for lots of Alden styles which are their most common. the raw count of navy blue CXL boots that are produced makes them hard to spot in the wild, I agree, but I would guess the vast majority of sold Aldens are in their traditional styles and thus harder to pick out of the crowd

Good point. I do pay attention to shoes when I see someone in a nice suit. It was a pet peeve of mine long before I started wearing Aldens to see an executive in a $1k suit and $100 shoes. Other than that, I probably don't really pay attention.
