Quite a few Alden sightings here in the ATL....LHS, tassels and chukkas as well as a few Indys and LWBs.....pretty good mix of shell and suede as well.

I have mixed feelings about this as part of what initially appealed to me about Aldens was the fact that they are so unique.

However, they still stand out from the crowd of cole haans and bit loafers.

I've actually seen quite a few Alden's in the wild.  The Tassel mocs and full-straps are practically required attire for attorneys in big law firms.  There are several models that are extremely traditional (tassels, full straps, cap toe bals, medallion cap toe bluchers); these are the ones I've seen frequently in the wild.  I suppose these are the models that BB carries, making them fairly common.  The more unique make-ups (i.e. shell boots and various bluchers) are difficult to find in the wild outside of NYC, ime.

My brother has a pair of 403's in 8 D, and though the length is perfect, the sides of my pinky toes slightly rub against the sides of the inside of the shoe. I'm wondering what the general rules are for sizing the width for Aldens. In my mind I feel there should be a little room width-wise for your toes to splay, but I don't know if that is a good rule, and I'm not sure how much chromexcel stretches over the years. Is jumping from D to E super noticeable? Also, my brother has worn his 403's irregularly for about a year (probably 4 months of total daily wear), so I'm not sure how much more stretch his shoes have left in them. Any advice/thoughts?
Based on my own experience, I can offer you a few pieces of advice.
1. The best, and most cost effective, way to find the correct fit is to try on multiple sizes before you buy. I only messed up once, but I've seen others sell off multiple pairs because of sizing errors.
2. The jump from D to E is quite noticeable.
3. The width of a shoe will give a little. Length will not.
4. Keep in mind that your brothers shoes have stretched to accommodate his foot, not yours.

Best of luck. The 403's are a good choice.

Cigar on Plaza

Alden suggests people to get the same size for Barrie and TruBalance last. However I find the same size TruBalance to be a lot more spacious than Barrie. I'm wondering if anyone here size down one half size from Barrie last and find it to be a good fit?

On another note, interesting that you wore blue with them. Do you find it to be too much blue?

Nah, I think they look great with Raw denim!

I figured my fellow shell lovers could appreciate my latest purchase. Grabbed a color 8 bifold wallet from Corter Leather. The thing is beautiful and made very sturdy. It will last a lifetime no doubt.

One of the best boots I have seen in a very long time. If somehow this boot made its way to a loden green CXL I would have a really hard time not pulling the trigger.

I've been at this for 3-4 years and I have never once seen a pair of Aldens in the wild. I remember seeing a guy on the bus once with some shell, but they weren't Aldens. I was excited just to see some shell.
