Other than purposefully setup meetings with other Alden SF members, I have never had someone tell me that they recognized them as Aldens. I have had a sprinkling of compliments in person, but not many.

Most of my San Diego co-workers know I am a shoe aficionado and they just assume I am wearing nice shoes. I would be more likely to hear, you are wearing those than nice shoes.

I have been asked once while in Washington DC by a co-Worker if the boots that I was wearing were Shell Cordovan, I was wearing my #8 Dr Jones Boots, and now a lot of my DC co-workers now know I spend too much on shoes also.

The only place that I have truly spotted in the wild Aldens is on the NYC Subway (Color 8 Full-Straps), on the way to having breakfast with a member here, and I have seen a few pairs within a block of Alden SF. But I am not sure that counts.

I have seen aldens in the wild twice, puts into perspective how small our community really is.

Lol... How many times have you seen EG or Lobb in the wild? Even smaller community.

Actually EG a lot more but my sample is skewed to say the least. Here in the nola EG is sold a lot more than Alden. I would say 5 or 6 times I have seen EG's out and about.

Quite a few Alden sightings here in the ATL....LHS, tassels and chukkas as well as a few Indys and LWBs.....pretty good mix of shell and suede as well.

I have mixed feelings about this as part of what initially appealed to me about Aldens was the fact that they are so unique.

However, they still stand out from the crowd of cole haans and bit loafers.

I've yet to see a blue cxl makeup by Alden that I didn't wish I had. Those Indy boots are lovely.

The Navy CXL Wingtips that Yenni did on the Plaza is insane. I ordered one off the next run whenever they are done.

I have another Alden fan in the office with me (I think he may own more than me). He spotted a pair of shell I was wearing (I forget the exact pair) and since then we've probably spent a good 50 hours over the past 2 years talking Alden.

One time on the train I was wearing a crepe sole LWB and someone asked me if it was the all weather walker and asked how I liked it - so clearly he had some knowledge of Alden.

My insurance agent and I got into a conversation about Alden's. He apparently has a few pairs and loves them.

The guy that comes into the office to shine shoes loves Aldens. When people ask him for advice on buying shoes, he hands out a Alden catalog. I'm not sure if he's getting some kind of commission or what.

I think that just about does it for me in 5+ years of wearing Aldens on pretty much a daily basis.

Yup.. They're the ones I was thinking about. Are they sold out of that make-up or do they still have sizes in stock?

Hello friends!

I'm about to make an exciting investment in some 403's, but I need some advice on width sizing. My brother has a pair of 403's in 8 D, and though the length is perfect, the sides of my pinky toes slightly rub against the sides of the inside of the shoe. I'm wondering what the general rules are for sizing the width for Aldens. In my mind I feel there should be a little room width-wise for your toes to splay, but I don't know if that is a good rule, and I'm not sure how much chromexcel stretches over the years. Is jumping from D to E super noticeable? Also, my brother has worn his 403's irregularly for about a year (probably 4 months of total daily wear), so I'm not sure how much more stretch his shoes have left in them. Any advice/thoughts?
