After a somewhat long wait (FedEx ground coast-to-coast isn't terribly quick), my latest arrival is finally here - the J.Gilbert Hunting Green Suede LWB with antique edge. I saw this model in J.Gilbert's 20% off sale, but hemmed and hawed over them for a while. Fortunately, when I finally decided to buy them, they were still available.

They arrived today, and I love them. I swapped out the boring black Alden laces for some alabaster tan AE laces, which I think give them a little bit more pizzazz (I did the same thing with my snuff suede LWBs).

Yes, the pictures capture the real color of the shoes fairly well. They're a nice deep forest green. Fewer yellow tones than most loden green suedes, and much fewer gray tones than Carmina's loden green. I would say these barely inch into the olive category.

That's awsome I really wanted deep green color like yours for shoes whole cut or boots & tried my luck with carmina chukka. In pic looked nice real life it's green mixed with grey tone etc. Was not very happy with it. Also is it still possible to buy that pair that you own from a store? Or are they sold out or have a wait?

I believe J.Gilbert has a 6D and a 10EEE left in this shoe, and that's it.

Some other retailers use the Hunting Green suede, though: Unionmade has a Tassel Moc loafer, an Indy boot, and a PTB. TheShoeMart and Harrison Ltd both have an unlined chukka boot. Moulded Shoe is doing a PTB on the Modified last. J.Crew has a lined chukka on the crepe sole. Unfortunately I don't think anyone else does a hunting green suede LWB.

I noticed that I just picked up my first LWB shell color 8 through Jcrew so only have experience with Barry last size 9D & thx you for the input.

I'm passing on this preorder because I already have a deposit down on tan country calf grant cap toes with brass hardware on commando. Can't wait till next spring for those to drop! nod[1].gif

Tan laces look great on the green suede. May have to try that on a boot I have. They will look awesome with some wear

Thanks - I thought so as well. Which green boot do you have?

Hey guys I have a quick question. Searched everywhere and couldn't find a specific answer. How small does alden make there shoes and boots? I'm assuming it gets to a certain point where alden doesn't have lasts for extremely small sizes. How small is that?

Generally, it's size 6. However, Alden definitely makes smaller sizes. I've seen them pop up on eBay and in Asia from time to time. You can email general@aldenshoe.com or reach out to TheShoeMart, Alden DC, or Alden SF.

Tan laces would look cool there, especially with the contrast stitching. Nice boots.

Edit: Just spoke to Sean, it's the dark edge (as pictured). Got on the pre-order anyway (thanks, JSO1!). Guess beggars can't be choosers. Could always send them off to Randy the cobbler...
You're welcome, lol. I picked these up at the store with 20% off (and insoles) and on the way to watching the Blue Angels on the lake. Crazy hot this weekend but love Seattle summers.

Glad you got in on it. It's a cool boot. I love the Plaza medallion that Alden uses - I have it on the B&M cognac wingtip.
