missed out on those indys. should have scooped them up with the 20% off code they had 3-4 months ago :/

And since we were talking about bloom the other day... These were covered in bloom when I first bought them (which I thought was pretty cool). They still develop a little around the eyelets that I have to brush and buff off every now and again Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Looking great Henry. The JCrew PCT is a great model!

Cross post from the Epaulet thread, but in case anyone is interested, here's a shot of my new Alden brown Alpine Grain boots along with the Epaulet brown Scotchgrain belt.

I apparently didn't get an E-mail from them with a breakdown at all. So it was all done over the phone. Now I want to check my Credit Card.

The original request was to re-do these with a flat welt, antique edge and Danite with a mid-sole. They informed me that they did not feel confortable doing a flat welt conversion since it is formerly storm welt and would leave a noticeable line. They were supposed to re-welt the shoe, but left the old welt leaving the triple color that it is now with the Mohagony Welt, Antique Edge and Red Danite sole. I intend to get them re-welted SOMEDAY, but wanted to get my wear out of this welt before doing it. In their defense, not redoing the welt is typically preferred as it preserves the upper better and so cobblers typically try and do that if at all possible.

Gentlemen,

You guys have been in the shoe game much longer than myself.  But I found a cobbler in my city who knows how to work with shell cordovan and is familiar with the general dynamics of the leather.

This is what he does for my antique edged Alden whiskey LWB/PTB:

The Topy's literally blend in with sole and edge perfectly.

Real Cool IMO.

Well, since we are on the subject (I've held my tongue on this for a year and a half), he completely ruined a perfect pair of pre-owned cigar longwings. I could have lived with the arrogance, poor service, and over-pricing if the quality of work was good. No such luck. Sold the shoes 2 weeks after getting them back for a significant loss.

Back to positive. Broke 2 barriers today. My first pair of Selvedge (nothing special, Gap) and the first time I've worn shell wingtips with denim. Hopefully the denim will soften up over time but I definitely felt comfortable with the longwings

All that's left is to wear boots in warm weather. I love the look, but still a little apprehensive.

This looks great. Have to try it soon, question for warm-weather boot wearers. Anyone goe with commando soles or is warm weather wear limited to double leather?

I definitely think that the general rule of thumb is to not wear the lightest shell shades in heavy rain.  And, that is a rule I follow.

However, I was at the mall with my family and somehow pop or some sort of grease stained my whiskey LWB....

I got some of it out...but small spots...not so much.

It all just adds to the patina.

Thanks.

Hey guys,
To those that have picked up shoes at Alden DC and/or have them shipped to you: Can I get some sort of break i.e. not having to pay sales tax? I figure 6% sales tax on $700 pair shell shoes is pretty substantial. Does alden DC charge for shipping? I'm able to pick some up and just trying to see if I can catch a small break. Thanks.

I have not bought from them but if it's like leffot shoe place then no tax & free shipping as long as you are out of state.

I'm not in NY and Leffot has charged me shipping each time.

Alden DC didn't charge shipping, If I am remembering correctly.

Neither charged tax.
