Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled. I frankly wasn't too thrilled with the service I received but never posted negative feedback and was never explicitly asked until now.

I apparently didn't get an E-mail from them with a breakdown at all. So it was all done over the phone. Now I want to check my Credit Card.

The original request was to re-do these with a flat welt, antique edge and Danite with a mid-sole. They informed me that they did not feel confortable doing a flat welt conversion since it is formerly storm welt and would leave a noticeable line. They were supposed to re-welt the shoe, but left the old welt leaving the triple color that it is now with the Mohagony Welt, Antique Edge and Red Danite sole. I intend to get them re-welted SOMEDAY, but wanted to get my wear out of this welt before doing it. In their defense, not redoing the welt is typically preferred as it preserves the upper better and so cobblers typically try and do that if at all possible.

Wow Mike,

I know that you would not even mention such a thing if it were not a big deal to you...

Sorry about the poor experience.

Question:  Why didn't you just send them back to Alden?

Just wondering...

Thanks.

Not to my knowledge.

I've seen them use leather, flex/waterloc, commando, neocork, plantation crepe, and micro, but never Dainite.

and Goodyear

Alden does not do Dainite would be my guess nor do they do sole changes from the original if I understand correctly

I explicitly wanted the Red Danite sole, there are two problems with sending them to Alden in that case, first they don't use a Danite Sole as you previously mentioned and second, they won't change the type of sole from the originally specified sole. In hindsight, I would have stuck with Double Leather and just put a Toppy on them, but hindsight is 20/20 as they say.

Gotcha.

B. Nelson is typically known for stalwart customer service.  Perhaps you could reach out to them and let them know how you feel.

Personally, I thought that the contrasting colors on those boots looked cool...:D

Perhaps maybe not the white stitching, but even that gives them a very different appeal.

picked up my most worn pair of shell from Aram at AH One Shoes this evening and couldn't be happier.. If anyone is looking for flush toe taps etc, reach out to him. He's East Coast (Northern Va), has very reasonable pricing imo, and is legit one of the nicest guys I've ever encountered. Any time I'm grabbing sushi nearby I make it a point to stop in and drop a pair or two off for some touchups.

Just a quick job on these.. vibram topy and flush taps to the indys, with a re-dye of the uppers on the bluchers

What was the damage on the topy + toe taps, if you don't mind sharing?

Arams's work is amazing! And he is a really good fellow. More people ought to reach out to him and patronize his store. He also stocks Aldens and G&G's.

Aram is the only cobbler I will let touch my Edward Greens and Aldens outside of the respective factory restoration services.

I most certainly agree! I have been going to Aram for a few of my recent projects. He has been working on my laptop bag for a while. I hope to pick it up from him next week.

Dose this person have a site were you can buy shoes or use his services?

When it comes time to resole or do any non-Alden-restoration work to my shoes, I'll be sending them to Aram.

As a side note - what happens if you send a pair of TSM irregulars back to Alden for restoration? Will they re-stamp them with the Reject thing on the sole? Will they include a regular Alden box, or what?
