Yes. Madison's shell split toe loafer is on the Grant. I tried it on a couple months ago.

I'm in Mid MI; I think the first time I saw it was when I lived in NYC but they are in abundance here! The ice cream from the Dairy Shop here at MSU is still the best I've ever tasted anywhere! Can't beat making ice cream from milk obtained from cows the next block down. Where in MI are you? There are a couple of guys towards the Eastern part of the state like MP.

It was surprisingly good! Not too sweet and very creamy! It will definitely produce distinctive Alden "rolls" if I ate them more often lol8[1].gif

Good to see someone enjoying some ice cream from my alma mater. So much fat that they can't legally sell it off campus.

If I ever make it to MSU, I'll leave my UM gear at home and grab some ice cream.

This is one of the 3 style that Alden of Madison carries that I really like, and surprisingly have never seen posted on SF. They also have an NST/loafer on Aberdeen and a Fullstrap loafer on Grant. I've been thinking about the monk strap for a while but didn't know how I would feel about the brass on shoes after having them for a while. When I saw them on the bay at a great price I almost couldn't believe it. Fortunately they were buy-it-now with an offer option so I didn't have to get in a bidding war. There is virtually no wear on the soles and other than some wrinkling, these shoes are immaculate. Very pleased.

I got a pair of those too. Though they are not as versatile as others models, I just couldn't resist myself getting them as they are such an unique make up.

Great pick up Sir!

Does anyone know what soles the natty cxl indys at washdc have?

I actually look forward to creasing my cordovan shoes/boots. I think it gives it character. However, creases on CXL I can do with out.

One could argue however that other retailers can be extremely difficult to work with because they won't allow or rarely let you return cordovan shoes or boots for this very reason. However quality issues has and will turn me away from a product even if they are willing to address them. I expect people to be human, I just don't expect to have to deal with them time and time again.

Anyway my choice not to purchase Alden isn't because I have yet to experience any issues it has more to do with aesthetics. They build a fine shoe or boot it's just that I like a sleeker. Last and other things that a more expensive shoe or boot will give you.

I should say I have 4 pairs of Alden's both shoes and boots and I'm rather happy with them, I just find that I when considering future purchases I find other items more appealing to me.
I totally agree with you I picked them up from jcrew my first American high end staple it's very comfartable no doubt. But not very sleek like what I am use to. Just like you said it's preference but very well built shoes minus the quality control that I had with my shoes. But that was the thing kind of turned me off. Funny part is I paid more money for them compare to vass & Carmina. But jcrew gave me 20% off so I ended up keeping them smile.gif

Current Vass prices make Alden hard to justify for me.

the difficulty of getting the right fit on a vass last/size combo, and then hoping for low sizing variance pair-to-pair together makes vass a bit of a headache ime.
