Why are you fellows so sensitive? I don't recall anyone calling the the #2s ugly or bad. They were called novel and unusual among other things. I realize contrary opinions in the land of Alden are sometimes met with rage and disgust. I like this thread best when there are a variety of pictures, tastes, and opinions shared. Pursuing an opnion echo chamber here is less appealing to me.
P.S. - I'm happy if Moosic likes his new kicks. Enjoy them.
fancy indeed. don't think of you as a loafers guy. welcome to the dark side.

I would offer them here, but I would not wish to inflict insult upon the injury I have already caused tot his forum. I was going to simply throw them into the trash, but what if the garbage man was to discover these oddities? I would be the talk of the town. Therefore, the only course I see open to me is to take them out back and put gasoline to them! I will rid the world of these horrendous flat pink novelties for once and for all!

I didn't say they were ugly, but they're clearly a novelty pair of shoes: noun
the quality of being new, original, or unusual.
Are they not new, original, or unusual?

I am not sure what this guy wants, I took down the offending pics so he wouldn't be forced to see them, thinking this would make him happy and be the end of it. Instead he responds saying he didn't call the shoes "ugly". I never accused him of calling them ugly (maybe it's just a reflection of what he was thinking). I think he just likes to
He does refer to them as "flat pink" and "matte pink", which I admittedly do not get, they are more reddish than pink. But who am I to disagree with one more knowledgeable about fashion than myself.
Thank you Namor, I try to be a gentleman about these things. From time to time I see some shoes or outfits on here that are not to my taste, but I just reserve comment. My mother always told me that if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all. I guess not everyone comes from the same school.
I'm thinking about jumping in on Leffot's Alden Chromexcel penny loafers on the Van last, but have no experience on it at all. To start, I'm a 10.5 who's more like 10.7 on my right foot in the toebox.
I see the usual consensus is size down by 1/4-1/2 but I did that for a Barrie in a lined suede moc toe, and while the shoe and toe box fit great I still have quite a bit of heel slippage in the rear. I've seen some say that given the penny would be unlined and in the Van, I could size down a whole size - especially since CXL is supposed to stretch and conform more than other leathers.
My other last info:
10UK in Carmina Simpson (upsize +.5, fits great)
10US in Alden Barrie (sized down .5, good fit but heel slippage)
10.5US in Plaza is perfect
9.5UK/ 10.5US in C&J 358 and 325 are all good
10.5US in C&J 348 - had to get the right foot stretched slightly
Whiskey often looks like a caramel apple to me and is probably my least favorite alden color. Though I am sure that will change over time.
While a lot of "patina" just looks like wear and tear to me, Whiskey really benefits from it. In the past Whiskey wasn't always so popular - people called it "bandaid color". With some wear, the bandaid (or caramel as you say) turns into a lovely mid-brown. It's not ultra versatile, but it's tops IMO for Summer/Spring when you get to that level of a rotation. The #2, on the other hand, seems more like an oddity and novelty designed for the Alden fan who has everything else. There's nothing wrong with that, but I can't think of a less versatile shoe than that matte-pink LWB.
I am sure at some point I will take a fancy to whiskey. I hated the Indy and now have 5 pair...lol
