People have tried black/color 8 in the past.  The problem is that color 8 can be very dark, almost black, and then the two-tone effect is lost.

I have a number of color 8 shoes. I don't think color 8 is,as dark as black. Particulrly if the black is alpine grain and there is textural difference.

Those look great! Makes me glad I got in on the epaulet version which should be coming in later this year. Congratulations on the nice pick up!

Would post pics, but the arrival of these put my wife into labor and we are at the hospital waiting the arrival of #2!

could someone fill me in on the benefits of a crepe sole? I've heard elsewhere that they don't last as long, but people here seem to enjoy them. Are Alden crepe soles different? If so, in what way?

Those are AF27, part of the Plaza Last series of Alden Fan shoes.  The date on the back of this photo is April, 2000:

I had a pair of those too.  : - )

I think it's a matter of how your foot is made up.  Alot of people claim it's more snug, some people claim it fits the same way.  I'd be curious to know if this is in the toe box, heel, etc.?

I can only speak from my limited experience with the Jcrew Indy in color 8. The crepe really feels like you are walking in sneakers. I can't speak to the longevity of the sole, but I can make my decision in a few years whether to go to BNelson for a resole to commando, dainite, or double leather or send back to Alden for more crepe
