Why did mahogany, and color #4 shell go away?  t seems to me whiskey shell would require more perfect shell than mahogany or #4.  What am I missing?

Unfortunately they are gone from Alden...but not from other makers.

I am having a #4 boot being made right now.  Should be done in about 2 months.

I got a email from DC today saying that they had my size in the cigar captoe boot in stock, but they unfortunately only had my Barrie size on file instead of my true size, which is a half size up. frown.gif

Hi Steve

As far as I know, and without knowing the situation at Horween, those are simply decisions made at the factory based on Alden's priorities.

I like Alden DC's strategy. Kathy likes to submit orders or 2-3 shoes in order to increase the likelihood of them getting made within a "quick" turnaround.

Not reddish per say, but more olivey.

Here are a couple pics of them I found here:

Thanks. Kind of bummed they're so dark. I guess I'll keep the order and see how they look when they come, but I may return them.

Damn, what a painful end to a year-long wait.

a months exposure to daily sun would knock that color down dramatically.

I understand that it's likely Aldens not asking for it.  I should have asked why did Alden make that decision?  Makes no sense to discontinue both of those colors.  But just like when you've got cereal and no milk...it is what it is!

I'm aware, but I'm worried that I won't be happy with how they look at the end of the process, and then I'd be stuck with a pair of shell boots.

Of course, buying the shade I like also means they'll lighten, but I'm a little more comfortable with that for some reason.

Anyway, I guess I'll see what they look like when it comes. Just a bit bummed they're not that cigar shade of old.

Look at it as motivation to wear them more. When I got the Cigar PTB I posted earlier, they were significantly darker. I've been trying to wear them at least once a week and the patina is slowly setting in.
