I have a comparison picture in my photo history. Carmina ruby, #2, #4

Carmina ruby is Color #2 shell.

Edit - before people get all "wtf they look different", it's due to two things: (1) Alden did some wonky stuff to the shells to give it a matte finish (or maybe got Horween to do it for them, but from my conversations there I did not get that impression), and (2) different shell batches look different (see the olive poop cigar runs and the brownvello). The 20 shells they got for the AoC 20/20 LWB all look more purple than most #2 does, as a consequence of the two things I mentioned above. But I did confirm that Carmina's ruby shell is in fact just Color #2 (and that Carmina applies the least dye or finish of the major shoemakers working with shell) and is most similar to what a Color #2 shell looks like when it leaves Horween.

NST Shell shoe is on my want list because of this feature. Breath Baby Breath for me...

I used to like NST.  Had one made of Bison w/ Gore Tex liners and lug soles that served me well for years in Boston and Germany.  My brother in NYC wears them now on rainy days.  Have never quite come around to full strap pennies.

Have you tried GlenKaren polish/cream.  I've used it on shell after Bick 4 and it seems to work pretty well.

Nope but I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Are they out? I'm afraid to call, er, my wallet's afraid. Also, no one has posted their unboxing pix like they just did with those barrie lasted CT from AoM.

A MTO program would increase demand, some people might wait 2+ years to get a custom pair. The risk Alden runs is at what point will someone with custom order get pissed on the wait if it's 2 years and no delivery? What if the wait went a year over? Don't get me wrong I love the idea of having a MTO program available and at some point in the future it could return but my hopes are not high.

Waiting 2-3 years for a custom cowboy boot is pretty common, but those ar measured to your foot and all of them are that way...so every pair are custom. I've done this and the fit is simply incredible!

I think Alden has their niche market and maxed on capacity/output. As is there's a lot make ups that were confirmed over the last few years and not delivered. I think a few orders are over 3 years.

Given the choice of MTO vs. bringing back #4 shell, and some other discontinued she'll colors would be a better move. It's not more difficult to make #4 WTB boots than #8. Anything from #4 would sell like crazy.
I too got in the game just 3 years ago, so many makes up 10 years ago that were easy to get then.

Good discussion!

Steve

Steve,

I guess if they are maxed out to full capacity and they have to do one-off orders, that could slow them down. Maybe only offer calf, color 8 shell and black shell for MTO's? I'd still be happy if they did that. I will have to look into a bespoke shoe. Never really thought about it but the concept seems like a good idea. On another note: It sounds like Epaulet is getting some traction on group MTO's...hopefully some other retailers can go down this road as-well and we can do some more group MTO's on here.

Thanks for your reply,

So, when @Bbombers85 posted this PSA I was all over it like a duck on a June bug.

This is very exciting.

Glad it worked out! Great boot - I wish my AoM boot was all eyelet, but I'm still glad to have a pair.

Nice!  Was this thru 14oz?  Did you call them to place the order?  I sent them an email but never heard back.  Also, was it just E-width sizes available?

Yes Sir,

My understanding is that it was E widths indeed, so that was the most appealing thing of all for me.smile.gif

Glad it worked out for you then!  I don't think an E width would work for me anyway, which is probably better off :)

I had the fortune of getting on that order, too.

Note that I've been told it's on the 379X last and not Barrie.

Thank You Sir.

When I see these rarities on my size, I tend to just swoop them up.

Certainly a boot that has massive potential to be worn all the time.
