I'm watching, but questioning if I would ever wear them. Also I have 8 MTO and GMTO's I'm currently waiting on. So many shoes, so little time to wear!

Man, I really wish I got into Aldens like 10 years ago. My interest has peaked over the past 2-3 years but I would have loved to been able to customize my own shoes.

Anyone with inside information know if they will ever bring back MTO? Maybe next time we hit a recession? Ha. I think I read it was an economic decision. I'm a firm believer that there is a price for everything. Certainly Alden could make some money with a $300 up-charge. I'd pay it and I'm sure there are plenty of others that would as well.

C&J still does MTO. I just reached out to them and designed my own shoe in my last of choice and boom, done. So nice.

Maybe someone with some pull could get Alden interested in re-instating their MTO program?

Maybe I need to make some friends with some people up in Middleborough. I mean, its only a 3 hour drive, I could spend my weekends up there for a few months.

I completely agree with your comments. I think the challenge Alden faces is they can't get the man power they need to meet demand as is. A MTO program would increase demand, some people might wait 2+ years to get a custom pair. The risk Alden runs is at what point will someone with custom order get pissed on the wait if it's 2 years and no delivery? What if the wait went a year over? Don't get me wrong I love the idea of having a MTO program available and at some point in the future it could return but my hopes are not high.

Waiting 2-3 years for a custom cowboy boot is pretty common, but those ar measured to your foot and all of them are that way...so every pair are custom. I've done this and the fit is simply incredible!

I think Alden has their niche market and maxed on capacity/output. As is there's a lot make ups that were confirmed over the last few years and not delivered. I think a few orders are over 3 years.

Given the choice of MTO vs. bringing back #4 shell, and some other discontinued she'll colors would be a better move. It's not more difficult to make #4 WTB boots than #8. Anything from #4 would sell like crazy.
I too got in the game just 3 years ago, so many makes up 10 years ago that were easy to get then.

Good discussion!

Steve

maybe someone should go to the Alden factory with a sign that says, "will work for MTO."

I've purchased from the seller before. Nice guy. Didn't know he wore 8D as I bought an 8.5D from him. He's also on SF but I won't divulge his username as it's not for me to do so.

Yes, it will temporarily darken them indeed, but soak those shells and let them sit overnight...

Problem solved.

^I've used Bick4 on dry shell and it's worked well.

Very nice.  And agreed about the versatility.  I think I could have just a few pairs of these unlined pennies (black shell, burgundy shell, and suede) and boots and be happy.  If only the welts weren't so wide nowadays.

Penny loafers w/ suits is a classic combo (at least for Americans) that would def. be approved here.

I like a full strap shell for more formal wears. Not a cap toe or bal type person. The shell penny either full strap or not works well and you get some decent wear out of them as a purposeful garment ... Beyond that.. I like the NST as far as boots go, they have similar vamp stitching and hence breath as shoes and boots go. I do own a few PTB makeups but mainly only use them In the winter months. NST Shell shoe is on my want list because of this feature. Breath Baby Breath for me...

I use Bick 4 when the shell looks dry, but within a matter of a few wears, it's dry once more.
