I did hear from a reliable source that Alden is not going to ever use that shade again...

Could of just been hearsay...

That would be unfortunate as a Color 4 wingtip boot is my grail.

Would EG be a better route to get this makeup?

Vass would be better if they can source the leather. More options, better construction, lower price.

Perhaps they would be.

@mdubs could tell us more regarding the current state of Alden Color 4.

When the Alden shell cordovan season is raining it is pouring...only for a season though...

When it is dry...it is dry...

Yes they would be.  The issue is the leather...this is why my Vass MTO fell through...Alas, no shells in those shades...

I recognize this is somewhat subjective and may vary, but of Alden's three primary grained leathers - Alpine, Regina, and Scotch - which has the most pronounced pebbling appearance (i.e. the most surface variation)?  Thanks as always!

Can EG source it? Their single unit MTO fee is high, on top of their already exorbitant price for shell (or crup) RTW. St Crispins has no MTO fee, so they'd be worth checking as well.

Well, that is one benefit of this route, they can get access to those types of leathers, the downside is the cost. Exorbitant.

The benefit of Alden is a standard set price.  The downside is the wait.  Excruciating.

The question becomes which one do you want to hurt more?

Your wallet-Because you don't want to pay the cost.

Your heart-Because you may never have a chance to get them.

6 to 1

Half a dozen to the other...

If I could get a color 4 boot by EG, I'd swear off Aldens for a year.

Who am I kidding. One can wish though.

Just don't fall into the spending vortex when you see the other cool items on the rest of their site.

(sorry for the thread derail) --- I love Epaulet.  But, I didn't know they offered that service.  Care to elaborate?  (or send me a PM, please)

I wonder if you could buy a shell from Horween directly in the color of your choice, and send it to EG, St.C, Vass, Carmina, etc., and have them make shoes/boots for you from that piece of leather...

A cheap option to do this would be Awl & Sundry. I've met the owner of that operation and bought a pair of beaters off him. He said he could make me a pair of anything if I got him Cordovan. However, I'm not sure how well versed his clickers would be and if they screw it up. Bit risky, but an option.

Ha.

This sounds familiar.  Like myself a while back.  Not anymore though, I just embrace reality now.

I am having a #4 boot made and am also putting a pair of boots on the B&S and Ebay so I can have Kathy send me a Alden 974.

This is my hobby.  Some gents go fishing or hunting or whatever.

I enjoy shoes and boots in particular.
