Alden restoration is a really great deal but I have only had a need to use them on shoes I purchased second-hand. To me, a big part of the value is the refinishing, and I like the way my new color 8's patina naturally over time. For that reason, any color 8's that I've owned from the beginning, I have always used a local cobbler for resoles.

I've had my pair for about 4 years now and wear them frequently from the spring through the fall. I've never had an issue with the stitching bothering my feet and find them super comfortable. The snuff color is great as well and works with just about everything.

I'm not sure how guys say they can wear theirs with bare feet. The fit is a little weird between the Leydon last, the unlined construction, and the fact that the chukka only has 2 eyes. I also find the Alden flex to be the hardest riding (most uncomfortable) sole I've tried for a long day on your feet. That said, I like them, and I'm glad I have them. If I had it to do over I may have gone with a snuff PTB instead.

Snuff is a fantastic color in person, it just pairs so well with darker denim, just prepared to end up with some indigo dye on the suede.

They've held up well enough with light use over the last year. I did have an unfortunate incident involving an overzealous frying pan flip that landed a hot oily slice of onion on the toe. After a lot of gentle buffing with some suede tools it's almost imperceptible. I did have some meltonian suede protector on at the time but I'm not sure it helped at all. I will say this has absolutely kept me from purchasing anymore light-colored suedes. It just seems so fragile to me as a material. I'd love to know how they will stand the test of time, but I'm honestly a little worried. I have no idea how guys on here say they romp around in snow and mud with snuff suede and keep it looking decent. For this reason I would never ever consider camel, marble, sand, or any of the other light shades of suede as they seem impossible to keep clean over years of use.

I love Alden's tan suede, but for me, it's a spring/summer material. I wear tan suede at least weekly in the summer (typically barefoot or with no show socks). The suede still looks nice. One of my first pairs of Alden shoes was the tan unlined PTB from J Crew. I sold them a while back but would buy another pair in an E width.

The suede unlined chukka in snuff is a classic. I have it and should wear it more often. IMO, this shoe looks better as you get it a bit dirtier. Snuff chukkas in general are a great style for spring through fall.

I also have Leather Soul's dark brown snuff tanker. It's one of the best looking Alden shoes I own. In theory I could wear it in the rain and snow and such but I never do - I always go for Leather Soul's Ultimate Indy for that purpose. In nicer weather, I tend to reach for the Cigar Indy. At this point it is more of a collector's shoe for me.

Sorry to quote a 5 month old post, but can you please tell me where you got hold of those perfect snuff v-tips?

I am one of the few who hate Alden chukkas. And I started out a chukka guy. My feet just don't work with Alden chukkas, even in wider widths. I have tried several and I always have medial side tightness/discomfort. But they look really boss. Snuff would be my favorite color.

I'm also not big on chukkas for similar reasons. I own 1 pair in color 8 and for me to get any other ones it would have to be a good deal or an exotic shell. Even then I'd think twice and hope someone snags them before I do.

In general, I felt the same way about BARRIE last 2 eye chukka's.

Then I saw the 270 flat welt 6 eye version and that is one of my favs now.

Also, Plaza last chukka is great as well.

Got a call from AoM that my cigar LHS are shipping today.  These are from last years order where Cigar and Ravello was delayed.
