You and your shell will be just fine. Just follow the mac method and you'll be fine over time. All my cordovan shoes have initially had bloom that dissipates with wear.

Great! much appreciated

I think someone should take the Japanese or Italian cordovan which seem to have much better availability and start making belts from them. Looks like a couple of options that could work with whiskey and ravello shoes. Seems like a hole in the market that one of these custom wallet making guys on Instagram should jump to fill.

Pics are swatches from a recent Rider boot MTO on Reddit.

That's the cigar I love. I must have visited alden sf after you did because I bought one of those (2 sizes too big) and freaking love it.

You actually might have. Did you buy the belt that was returned by someone? I can't recall the size, but it was way too big for my (at the time) 32 inch waist. Robert mentioned he could hook me up with someone to cut it down, no problem, but I passed. If so, I'm glad it found a loving home.

I'd have to hold it to see. I've heard that the Japanese shell isn't as nice, but who knows - Horween is good, but tanning isn't magic.

Sure, follow my "anger management method":
1) Get water welts
2) Get super pissed off
3) Stick the shoe in your closet
4) Forget about it for 5 years
5) Find them again
6) Enjoy magically repaired shoes.

You could also hit them with a drier and a warm spoon or deer bone. That helps too.

Ben Silver sells a belt in "tan" shell.  Not sure who makes it, nor whether it's Horween shell, but it's a pretty penny.  I have a number of Rancourt shell belts (including "caramel" and "espresso") and like them just fine.

Indeed. Supposedly made by the same Canadian company as the BB belts, last time I checked. Much nicer though.

I am working with Ron right now for a shell bal boot in one of these lighter cordovan shades.

This is very helpful to see.

For her, the answer is clearly less than 20. It doesn't help that she lives like a monk. Her only expensive items were purchased by me as gifts.

1 watch or 10 aldens is my problem these days

I go in phases, and consequently vacillate between the watch fora and this place.

I've got Alden bells in all colors but Ravello and #4.  They are the best quality shell belt I own.  I also own an Edward Green shell belt that works with whiskey or Ravello.  Last but no least I own several of the 1 piece shell belts offered through Horween.  I have whiskey and cigar in those.
