JCrew Ludlow

They are obviously not quite the same with a different leather supplier and no cordovan, but very similar looks.

I briefly owned the Ludlow wingtips in cigar brown (didn't even realize Alden had a 'cigar' at the time), and style-wise they are pretty much knockoffs of Alden LWBs (differences I noticed were the wing tip doesn't go as high/pointed, and different medallion design), but they just felt lower quality overall so I sold them after a few wears.

J.Crew obviously had their design team rip off Alden designs like their Pacer boot (Indiana Pacers...?)  but there must be a market for them as a more affordable option to their Alden line.

I was pretty surprised at how blatant the rip-offs were, but Alden doesn't seem to have a problem with them, seeing as how J. Crew continues to sell both.

FWIW, I have Kenton (not Ludlow) suede PTBs in four colors and like them just fine.  Chinese-made, but Goodyear-welted and I paid <$150 per pair.

I spoke to the manager at J Crew about the similarities between their shoes and Alden. She said she thought it was good for both J Crew and Alden. With the price points and quality being so different, it is rare that a customer is trying to decide between a J Crew branded shoe and an Alden. The J Crew shoes do introduce their customers to a style and perhaps provide a stepping stone to higher quality purchases in the future (Alden).

Those are beautiful, but do they fit you properly?  Looks like there's a big gap in the heel.

In the case of shoes, I like Aldens and for sneakers, I'm an Air Jordan 1 fan. I buy all my clothes from J. Crew and have a minimal rotation. I mentioned I wear jeans alot - I have 2 pairs of raw denim I stick to. I guess I spend money on quality and focus less on quantity. Makes life easier for me in the morning. Shoes are the only item I rotate constantly.

Speaking of rotation, I have about 15 shoes/boots, and it ends up being that some very nice pieces that I have don't often get worn.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to implement 2-week "Tours of Duty" for 3 shoes/boots with one "reservist." Every two weeks, on a Sunday night, I picked the next three I want to put on

active duty, and then I don't have to think about it much, plus I force myself to wear shoes that I love, but often overlook. So far I'm enjoying the idea of it.

I do something similar, but more on a monthly basis. I'm currently in a rotation of Color 8 Leffot LWB, Color 8 chukkas,Cigar PTBs and a couple of non-Alden shoes where each pair sees 1 day a week (I wear sneakers on weekends and Fridays. I just cleaned up by Indy boots last week and put them away for the summer as I try and stay away from boots in the warm NYC months, but I am thinking of cycling in the Ravello captoe boots to break in.

For all of you who have boots on the Grant last, I am looking to pinpoint the right size I wear
11.5 C on the Hampton
11 E on AE Park Avenue.
So what will it be a the size to go with on the Grant last lengthwise since most boots are done on D

Thanks in advance
