The only drawback that I can see is that they are not cordovan. smile.gif

Have You considered the 974?

I did, and it boiled down to cost. Ponying up $530 for the calfskin was a tad bit easier to stomach than the ~$700 for the cordovan for my very first pair of Aldens. Maybe the next pair smile.gif.

I totally get that.

I have to stop myself and be careful to admonish a man to spend 7 bills on a pair of shoes.

You did well. It's probably best that you do not join us In our obsession with horse hide....

Congrats on your first Alden's my friend.

Wear in good health.

Can anyone help me out? smile.gif

Here are some of my IG pictures with AF53 and Epaulet Walt trousers.

They are definitely bulbous and chunky looking now but I think they will gain more character when creases and patina set in. I can't find the picture right now, but there is a photo of a beatup AF53 posted in the beginning of the thread which convinced me to buy it.

I think they are absolutely stunning but I'm curious to hear if you guys think they are a good, versatile first pair. I haven't worn them yet because I keep asking myself "is this the right pair?" - which under normal circumstance wouldn't be a question if not for the price, which is more than I've ever paid for shoes before.

Those are great shoes and very versatile. Great first choice.

In fact, I tend to wear suede shoes/boots during rainy day. Just spray some nano protector on them from time to time and you'll be good.

Here is a photo of my recently purcahsed milkshake suede medallion CT boot on Hampton last from Tassels HK.

Those are pretty suite and unique!

I have been searching for it for awhile and it seems no retailer carries them currently.

BTW, I also bite the bullet and order the snuff WT boot from Epaulet, even never tried on the plaza last before.
Good luck to me tongue.gif

Sorry, I mistyped. It's the natty indy from Epaulet.

The snuff boot will be awesome! Congrats for getting on it!

Bear in mind though that Zenny's boots are short and wide. Wonder what that would look like in 10.5B...

icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif They will be dope!

Having not tried on a Plaza shoe, I also fretted over sizing. I have an 11D Indy (Trubalance), an 11D CXL PTB (Barrie), and an 11.5D unlined Chukka (Leydon). The Indy is more roomy than I'd like. The PTB needs thick socks to fit well. The Chukka may be slightly roomy, but it's hard to tell since it's an unlined floppy, stretchy, boot. I went with 11D on the Plaza boot since I won't want to wear it with thick socks.

We'll see how it goes...

Every time I look at your website and admire the sleekness of your various Aldens, I force myself to remember that so much of that is attributable to your very-narrow feet and that my Aldens, made for my humdrum, average width feet, will not be nearly as sleek. How sad.

I would strongly recommend you reconsider. I would suggest 11.5D. The Leydon is narrow for most folks so if it is little big on you, you might be able to go 11.5C. But I would not drop down to 11D.

I appreciate the input. I will change the order to an 11.5D.

I've got difficult to size feet - usually an 8.5D in Barrie but with a slightly tight front; 8E (wide) Barrie was too short; 8.5D (Trubalance) fit perfectly.

However, my problem is I've got flat feet and fairly narrow heels which make my heels slip out on loafers.
I have had some luck with Gaziano and Girling loafers in UK8 and almost no slippage but no such luck with Crockett & Jones or John Lobb. I suspect that I will see heel slippage with Alden loafers as well but I was wondering which size potentially gives the least slippage.

Should I go for the 9C (narrow) or 8.5D in the Van? And a 9D in Aberdeen?

It's appears that we have a similar foot make up and shoe sizing. I have a bunion on my right foot. My one and only Alden is the Indy Snuff Suede in 8.5D. The roomy Trublance last fits me great. My local Alden dealer Sherman Brothers sized me up for a pair of LHS CXL Penny loafers in the Van last. They sized me at just over 9 and border line narrow on the brannock. They didn't have the LHS CXL penny loafer in stock, so they had me try on the Calfskin LHS shoe in a size 9D. It was a good fit. They ordered an 8.5D and 9.C. The more I think about it, not sure what they didn't also suggest and order a 9D. Because the Van last runs big?

Alden x Leffot Kind LWB day here in sunny (and finally HOT) NYC!

@Bbombers85 I love the the leffot version every time I see it. I'm always on the fence between that and the 975 for my first LWB..
And yes, the humidity in the city yesterday was definitely present haha
