Incredible #2s, dubs. It's interesting that they have more of a matte finish than other Aldens.

How do your coworkers like them?

Thanks guys. I do realize that these shoes are not your typical conservative Alden, but they are really quite special in real life.

Yes, they are still uncreased and I wore them for about 6 hours yesterday, indoors only though as it rained down here yesterday and was supposed to go "soccer golfing" with a friend here after work.

Actually, of all my Alden's, this is by far my most complimented pair and have lead to very long conversations on them. However, most people do not get the concept of hard to get shoes.

Cheers,
Mike

Ha, I put a lot of thought into whether to put up ads on the site or not. I looked at a bunch of other blogs on various topics and concluded that the more professional looking blogs had ads. It gives the impression that people actually want to be there and that you have content of enough value that people want to advertise there. I did elect to put the ads at the bottom as to make them less obnoxious. I also wanted to give less of an impression that I was a retail store, typically retail stores don't have brooks Brothers ads on their page. ;-) Finally, I got like $5 in the April, of which I only had ads up on the site for about 6 days, not too shabby. Need money to buy shoes, shoe trees, etc. Hope that makes sense!

Beautiful looking LWBs. Great photo. Something about wood and shoes just makes them look terrific.

I can't believe I never noticed or asked, but do you have TWO pairs of the color 2 LWBs?

Nope. Just one pair. The other pair in the photo on my blog in which I call the 2x2 is owned by MrDV.

Question - I want to invest in my first pair of Aldens. I was thinking of getting the burgundy medallian captoe. Do you think that would be a good versatile first pair of Aldens to get (with suits)?

On a more serious note, YES, that would be a great first pair of Aldens.

Are you speaking of style # 2145?

Yes, that's it! Just in burgundy, not black. I really want to make sure that this first purchase is the right one. Glad to hear that you guys think it's a good choice. My only fear is that this will start a very expensive new habit.

That is definitely #8 burgundy above pictured.  A bad pic though.

Make sure you try that Aberdeen last on if at all possible, it can be a bit tricky to fit.  This is just what I know.

And yes, this is a VERY expensive habit.

See this link for how to curb the habit:

I feel like I’m buying too many Aldens, what can I do?

1) Give up, there is no hope.
2) Stop reading this FAQ
3) Never talk to @mdubs

That's a great first model and great shoe for going formal to semi-formal. Probably not a casual model. Good luck with the keeping it under control. ;-) You have already failed at #3... ;-)

Mike, I was trying to add some observational humor into my post...

The aforementioned stone pig can be seen in the lefthand side of the picture, condescendingly watching over the events unfolding on our back porch steps.

His snide comment was in regards to the fact that my freshly brushed boots were clearly not hit under the laces.

Love the reverse earth chamois, starting to think a tanker or PCT boot would be amazing in it.

See he gets it!!!

I would immediately pull the trigger on a captoe boot in reverse chamois, earth or tobacco (especially if they were on Grant)
