I think the people saying they are the same have narrow feet, so they just don't notice the change in width/volume between the lasts.

That barrie=trubalance maxim is what I am following, too.

Another thing about this (and I'm not sure it has anything to do with this) is that these have a crepe sole. Does this make a difference?

*Just my experience and not a statement of fact for all Alden wearers*

Sorry for this potentially annoying statement, but I am an E width and wear the same size in TruB and Barrie. I have cxl, shell, suede and chamois across the Barrie and TruB lasts both boot/shoe alike. So its not just those with narrow feet.

Yup, I'm also an E width (9E on brannock) and wear the same size on Barrie and Trubalance. We tend to speak based on personal experience and generalities. 80/20 rule, right? There are always exceptions since everyone's foot is different.

Indeed. My annoyance more stems from the fact that I don't live near somewhere I can try on the various sizes and lasts Alden offers. So I'm wasting a considerable sum of money ordering and returning shoes because they don't fit how other people are experiencing.

Understand the trial and error pain (read cost of mailing packages back or selling). My first Barrie was 8.5d in cxl (6 eye chukka ) and fit great. I wear an 8.5d in suede Indy. Np. I then bought 8.5 d Barrie suede shoe and too tight. Will go with 8.5 e shoes in all Barrie that are non cxl. On the fence about 8.5 d shoe in shell Barrie. They seem to fit ok could probably wear d or e in Barrie shell shoe. No Barrie boot experience 8.5. Hope these data points help Now mix in plaza grant 379x etc. ohh boy smile.gif best of luck

Experiences will vary from person to person, but I personally am a big fan of playing with widths personally to try and achieve the best fit. I have learned that we will have several sizes that yield a good or "tolerable" fit, but there is usually a best fit for us. I went through this myself by buying all 10D on the Barrie Last before I learned that my true best fit was 10.5B. It took me about 1.5 years to convert all my boots and shoes over to my best fit. Just my personal experience.

I'm thinking that I should try to get a 9d.  I get some small heel slip with these. However, fully lacing them on kinda keeps my feet in the boot.

This is my first pair of alden shell boots and first experience with the trubalance last. Are alden shell boots less roomy than alden shoes? Will they expand alot with wear?  I only have shell and calf alden shoes. No boots.

What do you guys think?

Colour 8 indy is not hard to found, you should not try this.

Just refund the shoes without creasing them.

If you dont mind the speed hook become all eyelet,

u may try theshoemart http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-mens_indy_boot_shell_cordovan_color_8/pvc-ald-mxs-40568c_ald_m_indy_boot_shell_cordovan.html

He probably got them with the JCrew 25% off coupon glitch and that's why he's not trying another retailer.

You can't be annoyed at people's personal experience. LOL. A lot of people here wear the same size in Barrie and Trubalance. So when people ask for fit advice all we can give is a recommendation from our personal experience. If someone doesn't wear the same size they chime in. We have no idea what the shape of these peoples feet is and how their existing Barrie or Trubalance lasted footwear may fit them.
