thin ankles and think socks like happy socks will do that. mine look similar when not wearing boot socks. I tend to just wrap lace around the ankle nowadays as it's faster and a much more snug feel

what type of socks do you guys normally wear with Indys? I live in South Florida, so its pretty hot for me to wear thick wool/cotton boot socks. The only other type that would make sense to me are white athletic socks.

I wear boot socks with mine almost exclusively. I also will only wear the boots when it's below 70. I have realized that's the temperature at which I'm no longer comfortable with wool socks. After 70 it's chukka and blucher season. Living in south Florida your boot season may be a bit short :/

Extrapolating from the "cotton kills" mantra of winter performance wear, I quit cotton socks years ago, for all seasons.  Wool (with a touch of synthetics, even better) is so much better at dealing with moisture, and therefore heat, than cotton.  If you have decided to wear a boot on a hot day, something like a medium weight smartwool sock will serve you much better than a thin cotton one--for fit and comfort.  I was kind of amazed to see that those chups are cotton.  No thanks.  Just my .02.  YMMV, and all that.

Wearing white athletic socks with Indy boots probably violates some kind of Universal Law. But, Indy wore his boots while adventuring in the hot, humid jungles of South America, so I am sure some kind of lighter wool blend might work except on the kind of days I imagine you guys have in Florida where boots are just not going to work at all….

I wear my Indy boots with Nike Elite socks. Really comfy.

I've seen a lot of discussion on the temperatures when you quit wearing boots?  Like many things in our current world...original design and intent has been lost in translation!  The original Indy boot is a work boot and thats where the discussion ends.  Anybody who actually buys a work boot for Work will wear them while working regardless of outdoor temperature.  There's lot of boot options out there, Alden, or not.

My point is: to a working guy a boot is a tool just like the other tools he uses.  I worked construction in my college summers and I wore boots, long sleeve shirts and blue jeans while in the full summer heat while working...because anything less did not protect my body. For many years I've wore boots while performing my work as a HVAC technician  wearing boots like Red Wing, Alden, Etc.

I too have many Alden shell cordovan shoes and boots, and lots of cowboy boots too since I'm a native Texan. I wear them when I want to...regardless of temperature.   Don't get me wrong I wear flip flops and shorts too in the summer.  I've never complained about women wearing less in the hot Texas summer either!

Temperature should not dictate if you do or don't wear your boots...depending on what you're doing.  Going to the beach...probably not boots.  Going out on the town...heck ya!  Not that I made a fashion statement but I've worn boots many times while hiking with shorts during the hot summer to protect my feet.  I was hiking with a back pack...not trying to look cool or impress chicks.

Steve
