Hey guys,

First post so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. I want to get a pair of Longwings in Color 8. Which online retailer do you recommend? I've never tried on a pair before so I may have to return.

Thanks!

Alden DC or SF.

I've ordered from The Shoe Mart as well as from the Alden shop in San Francisco and have had zero issues with returns.

The Shoe Mart has an easy return system, although you do pay for return shipping.

I ordered from black shell WT boots from Alden SF and there was a quality issue and they provided the return shipping label.

If it's a sizing issue, you might want to try to find a local retailer.

Where do you live?

Either way, it's important that you only try on shoes on carpet and try not to crease them.

I'd order through J. Crew - multiple pairs if feasible. They're very lax with returns.

I live in NY but pretty far from Manhattan. Should I make the trip to Madison Ave for the sizing rec?

Make sure you quote when replying to someone, so that we know what conversation you are referring to.

It may make sense to take a trip to get your sizing down.

You can go to Alden Madison, Citishoes, Leffot, and a few other places, but Alden Madison will probably be most likely have something in stock.

I would definitely make the trip if you can. It's worth it to make sure of a proper fit, especially for different widths if you may need them as most other retailers may only stock D widths. Plus returns can be a pain if you have to do it multiple times.

Now with the warm weather hitting and casual loafers coming back in my rotation these will see even less wear.

How do you guys with really large collections deal with this? Are you just ok wearing things once a month or less? Maybe I need to take a hard look at sizing down my collection

I really like those a lot, Burzan.

I wanted to get something similar and tried the Citishoes model with black edges, but they really don't look as good. They've got an extra fat welt that's kind of off-putting:

I agree. I would love it if someone stocked Aldens within a couple hundred miles of me. If you can get to NYC, go to madison ave to test the fit.

Where are you in NY? Is Norwalk, CT any closer? The Shoe Mart is a good option too if you don't want to deal with NYC traffic.

Long Island..Both would be similar travel time so I think I'll head to The Shoe Mart. Thanks for the suggestion

I just ordered a pair of AE Macneils but the last didn't work. Hoping 975 toe box fits wider. Added bonus is that everybody on here seems to feel that the 975s are better quality.

Alden in general is better quality. As for the lasts, nothing beats just trying it on. You might want to call to verify they have the sizes you want to try in stock first.

Looking good. The eyelets are superb.

Can i call this unlined?
My other cordovan boot have calf lining on the shoe tongue.

Those are unlined. As others have said it depends on the model and vendor if the tongue lined. You can tell by looking at the outside of the tongue, if it has stitches around the edge, it is lined if not unlined. Black Shell is green in the back for some reason. :-)

I think Jcrew still carries the 975s on double leather. Returns with them are super easy. You can just walk them into a store.

I bet you could have your local store ordeer you a couple pairs to try on. The issue is they only carry D width.

Alright guys, I'm once again working a job where I need to dress like a grown up. So I want to pick out some new shoes to go with my wardrobe overhaul.

Since whiskey shell longwings are probably out of the question, I'm sort of deciding between J Crew's "Waxed longwings" and some Natural CXL longwings from shoemart, or the leffot pre-order.

What would you guys choose? Is the calf on J Crew's shoes inferior to good old natural cxl?

And also, if I wore 8.5D on the Trubalance last, should I be looking at the same size in Barrie?
