Maybe post some pics of your situation?

I believe you. It's still dark here (Bay Area), but when I get some better light, will do so. Thanks.

I wanted to ask the experts before I tried this out. I want to turn the black soles on my color 8 shell cordovan boots into antique soles by sanding off the black paint. Then maybe I would add a sealant/protector finish to the sole. Reason being, I own two pairs of color 8 shell cordovan boots (one on Barrie, one on Grant) and I want to make them appear somewhat different. I called a local cobbler and asked if this is a service that he offers, and he said it would be no problem to sand off the paint around the edging. I just worry about how the outcome would look. Has anyone ever experimented with this? Basically what I'm trying to achieve is the look of the Alden Naval boots that Leffot sells.  Thanks in advance!

Been done quite a few times, I imagine a search through this thread would turn up some results. Note that the welt will still be dark (not sure if it is on the leffot navals)

Check out @inn8chiro instagram for multiple pictures of his '88 Tanks' he had the black commando sole sanded and antiqued. He also had the black eyelets and speedhooks converted to brass all eyelets. I actually like the way an antique sole with a dark welt looks. It's less of a drastic transition from the depth of #8 to a light sole. The dark welt blends it well. Considering having the same done.

I am curious how the edge treatment of the 88's is holding up compared to stock Alden.

I'm having this done on my NST Tankers right now, basically for the same reason you are interested in doing it… Should be getting them back this month
