I want to get some suede PTBs for the spring and summer, but would rather not have to take them off every time I'm going through the TSA pre security line (2-4 times a week for the next couple months). Note: Because I have the TSA pre security clearance I don't need to take my shoes off at most airports.

All but the LHS, I believe.

My answer is: they might.  I went through pre-check security in Boston (likely a higher-security place, right?) recently with Indys on (and a belt with a brass buckle), shuffling my feet and staying in the center of the lane.  I admit I was surprised to not set off the metal detector.  Return trip, I tripped the detector in Jackson Hole's small-time airport, where the TSA person mentioned theirs was set to a high sensitivity.

So I gather it's hit or miss...wear chukkas or loafers!

No, all.  Even the flex welt models have a steel shank, which I learned not long ago from Mike.

I knew about the flex welt models like the Dover but thought the LHS were somehow different.  I stand corrected.  From the AOC website:

Quote:
Style 986 features the following high quality Alden construction and materials:  Full leather lining, leather insole, leather outsole, cork mid-sole, authentic hand sewing, long wearing rubber dovetail heels with leather inserts, true Goodyear welt construction, and steel shank for long lasting comfort and support.

pretty sure they all have metal shanks and that's what's gonna cause the metal detector. The brass eyelets don't help either.

Hey we like to think our airport is better than just "Small Time". Just givin' ya grief.  Non-Stop flights from 13 major cities each day. Not bad for our little mountain town.

I believe that only the Cape Cod Collection does not have Steel shank construction

Small-time security - wise, but big-time for everything else. JAC and SBH are my two favorite destinations, in part because the airports are so unique.

I would have looked you up but the skiing sucked (relatively). The locals were conspicuously absent.

Yeah we are on pace to finish at about 70% or so of our average snow falls and depths. Definitely a down year for skiing. However relatively to other Colorado, Utah, Cali resorts we did really good. Here's hoping next year brings us a better snow year for all in the industry.

Although the drier temps have allowed for a lot less bean boot and a lot more Alden wear so not all was lost;)

I've said this before but it really does suck for us frequent travelers.  I love my Aldens, packing light, and also breezing through the TSA precheck line.  It sucks to wear an extra pair of shoes just for flights but that's the pain we endure.  First world problems.

I just wear my Marlow Tassel or Marlow Penny loafers when traveling through the airports. No problem with security at all. Then I pack another pair of Alden's to rotate.

I assume you're considering making a change at AoM. I'd stick with Ravello since I think that makeup will come up great. Just my opinion as I'm also sticking with my Ravello pair.

I couldnt find any photos, but maybe someone with Cigar WTB with pants uncuffed could give you an idea.
