I've looked at the photo and blown it up to look closer.  Based on the other areas that have creasing...all are lighter.  I would start by wiping down with wet cloth and then brush...a lot of brushing.  I'm curious to see how much that helps.  In most cases  the creases will get darker again and match the rest of the hide.  If necessary...use a deer bone on creases.  I do see one area that has a dark splotch...you mentioned in your post the color was flaking off...which is possible.  I would not be afraid to use a little shell cordovan polish to see if it helps.  There is always the option to send back to Alden and no doubt they can fix this issue...the risk you take is it might darken the hide,  which in this case would be a shame because thats a very nice color of #8 you have.

Hope this helps.   I would as a minimum brush and see if it helps.

Steve

@totalair1 Thanks for the response. I figure I'll keep brushing wiping and then try some color 8 cream. Worst case scenio I'll stop in AOM and see what they think. The color is a beautiful eggplant in direct light and I wouldn't want it refinished or darkened at all if possible. Thanks again.

Does anyone have this boot? I think I've seen it posted once but not entirely sure. I was curious if anyone knows which last its on? AldenSF sells it and claim its on barrie. Not saying they dont know their product but people make mistakes.

Thanks!

I really like this boot and pretty much meets what I'm looking for in my next purchase sans commando sole. Its easier I have read repeatedly that double leather souls are very comfortable. Ill just avoid heavy snow

Looks Barrie to me. What makes you think otherwise?

Gentlemen,

What is the general consensus regarding Alden Leather Defender on shell cordovan?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I used Alden Leather Defender on my shell. Ravello, Cigar, and Color 8. There was no change in color or appearance. Easy to apply. Seems like a great and relatively cheap way to ensure against possible water damage.

It makes it nice and smooth/slick although I have to admit I'd had water drops on them and they still have have those subtle "bumps." Don't know what others' experiences have been but droplets from washing hands still have effects.

Well I saw a review of those particular boots and the picture of the sole looked like TB to me because of the width in the arch area. I am pretty sure i was being over critical and am now very wrong. The area near the ball joint of the big toe is a dead giveaway. Not sure what I was thinking. Thanks for the reply!

Where was the review you are referring to?

Hoping to get my first pair of Alden's, but need some sizing advice.  Currently, I wear the following:

AE Dalton (1 last): US7D.  Might be a mm or two long, but it is very comfortable since it's a boot.  I like this fit because I can wear thick socks in the winter and thin in the spring/fall.

Carmina:

Rain: uk5.5.  Heel is a little loose, but otherwise fits great

Soller: uk5.5.  Fits similar to rain

Oscar: uk5.5.  Fits great

Simpson: uk6.  Length is a bit long, but fits otherwise

I'm hoping to get in on this pre-order, which is on the Aberdeen last:

Unfortunately, I don't have any Alden dealers near by that stock my size.

It was a post on the goodyearwelt subreddit. I guess not a review as an account of their experience.

Anyone here grab those Ravello Chukka's off ebay?

I bid up to see what the reserve was. Which was a lot lower than what I was expecting smile.gif Didn't really NEED to get them, so glad some others swooped in to snipe. However at the price I was at, I would have been ok with it.
