Update-Mine too said style not eligible for discount but it applied it anyway.  Maybe a coupon glitch but it appears to have been honored.

My order shipped as well for the black shell Cadet and I was charged the price with the discount.  I'd assume a coupon glitch that they'll honor

Does anybody use brown wax polish on color 8 shell cordovan? I recently polished my color 8 and the turned too dark. Any thoughts on how to lighten up the leather?

Hello all, was wondering if you might be able to help me locate a pair of Aldens. Ive seen pics here before (but now I can't find them) of the standard Alden unlined suede dover in chocolate suede, on the regular flex welt. No retailer seems to carry that color though. Everyone sells the tan/snuff/navy color ways, but I haven't been able to locate anyone who sells the chocolate color. Anyone have an idea of where I might find them?

I wouldn't cake more polish on top of old polish to try and lighten them (if that''s what you're suggesting).  I'd remove the old polish and then give them a good suntan for a few weeks to lighten them naturally.  I only use color wax on heavy scuffs or scrapes.  Otherwise I use a neutral conditioner and let sunlight and wear lighten them.  I would imagine that even using lighter color polish on dark shoes would still result in an overall dark appearance.  Maybe someone else can chime in with some advice.

Great advice!
What neutral conditioner do you use?

I actually like my color 8 to be darker because it gives a nice contrast with antique natural soles.

Just use some Reno to take off the polish. Wax polish doesn't absorb very well into cordovan from my experience. It'll come off with a good cleaning.

After using the Reno ca you still get a good shine?

I typically use Saphir Renovateur, but there are a number of great conditioners out there.  Less is always more when it comes to shell.  A good wipe-down with a damp cloth and some brushing is all it really needs most of the time.  Less polish lets the natural beauty of shell shine through.

This is the one that Alden makes for BB.  Their website describes it as brown suede, but it is a little lighter than chocolate and slightly darker than snuff (closer to snuff).  I highly recommend them.

Ok thanks! I just ordered some! I bought the color 8 boots used and they hadn't had any care in a while so I'm trying to bring them back to their original glory...

Cool!  Post up some pictures and I'm sure others can give you some advice if there are specific trouble spots with the boots.  Otherwise, just give them a really good wipe to try to remove any caked on polish or wax.  Then brush like hell.  I've found that 90% of my scuffs have been corrected by doing these things.
