So how's everyone sizing Copley loafers these days to other lasts?

Got an 11D (my Barrie size) coming from Haberdash since they allowed the 25% with the alden sale price on the Chamoise loafers. Great deal just never tried Copley. And no 11.5.

I think that might work for you.....I picked up a TTS version in natural CXL and had to sell them because they were a touch big.

A rainy Friday evening with my old faithful buddy. And some Natty CXLs.

Your Choco Suede Tankers are terrific, but I personally prefer the stock flat brown waxed laces over the tan ones. They distract too much from the beautiful hand stitch work on them, which I think is a mistake.

Also, on the subject of confusing sizing issues, how far off does everyone consider the Trubalance from the Barrie?  For me, the TB in 10.5D is a nearly perfect fit; the Barrie in 10.5D feels slightly too short and too narrow.  I'm wondering if it's possibly a difference in materials (CXL on TB and cordovan on Barrie), or if the lasts are different enough to warrant different sizes.  Is anyone else in the same boat, or do you all just size both the same?

I consider the TB to be more full in the toe box, however, most people go same size on the two.. I may reconsider my policy on the TB sizing in the future...

AoM also include free Alden shoe tree and polish with these shoes for their mistake. Good service. But I hope them can check the shoes before sending to customer... because it costs me two shipping fee.

It is nice to see a flawless PTB. Enjoy them in good health and do what you can to keep them looking like that!

Must have knicked them pretty hard yesterday. Is there any way to fix this or am I out of luck?

I am sorry to see that my friend. That is a very deep cut, but with a lot of brushing and time, you should be able to reduce that a bit I think...

Midway through maiden voyage for Whiskey Chukkas

So, long time lurker, first time poster on the thread. I recently order two pairs of Alden boots for sizing information; I don't have time to find a brick and mortar store for a sit-down sizing. Full disclosure: I own no Alden boots, but I'm looking to hop on a Leffot MTO later in the year.

I received my order and was surprised to find the boots boxed as shown in the first photo.

Which is no big deal; I'm planning on returning these for a refund anyhow. In trying on the boots, however, I saw what's posted in the rest of the photos. I was pretty shocked that for a $550 dollar boot, these made it past QC ? Or is this a J Crew thing?

Any thoughts on this?

I've done a Viberg MTO through Leffot before and they're beautiful boots. The boots posted here are fantastic, and everyone seems quite happy with their purchases.

I've learned much reading here, thanks!

My friend, I am surprised to see the boxes themselves come taped up from the factory. Of the approximately 100 pairs of shoes that I have bought over the past several years, I have never received a taped up box. I highly doubt that was done by Alden.

As for pictures 2 and 3, it is unfortunate that they seemed to have missed a stitch with the good year welting machine. That is rather uncommon. Personally, I would not necessarily allow that to deter me from that particular pair, but I am not 100% certain on that. I will say that, that will not impact the performance of the shoe and whenever you get them resoled, that would be rectified.

On pictures 4 and 5, those are 270 degree welted shoes, meaning that the welt line does not go all the way around the shoe. That is a unique model that Allen Edmonds, for example, can not physically do, due to their lack of a steel shank. The 270 degree welt is supposed to provide a more formal look to the shoe, which is kind of funny on a light suede boot... :-) But it is very common on Alden's balmorals and more formal loafers, like the Tassel and Full Strap. The end of the welt to me looks fine...

Remember these are hand made shoes, designed to last you many years. Alden does not skip out on many production steps that many others do, even though it introduces more cost and little short term benefit, but a long term benefit to the shoe's longevity. Many other manufacturers will "lean" that process out of their production to save cost. Also, since these are hand made shoes, they are going to have SOME imperfections. That is just the nature of hand-made shoes. Unfortunately, if you want perfect shoes, you need to buy a shoe made via automated processes... Just some food for thought...

Anywho, I wish you the best of luck in finding your dream pair of Aldens and hope that you can hone in your fit quickly.

Ryden, thank you for asking. It was terrific. The store has come along ways in a very short period of time... If you are in the Seattle area, I definitely recommend checking it out. From my talks with Yenni, it seems that she is taking over all of the JGilbert lists and designs and will be doing her own as well. JGilbert will retain the stock of shoes that they already have though and will sell them until gone...

The best part was really meeting and chatting with Yenni though to be honest. She was super nice and pleasant and very excited to see me and chat with me. She is able to order stock models if you are interested in them, although she does not carry many stock models at this point in time. She is working a website and should have one sooner than later, but for now check out the Alden of Carmel site....
