I wouldn't recommend light edging / welt for color 8 models like balmoral wingtips / captoes, full strap loafers, saddles, grant/plaza boots, etc...

But for models that can be worn more casually (longwings, barrie boots, LHS, even chukkas or PTBs), the antique edging really makes the shoe "pop." It does make the shoe more casual, but they still go credibly with pants like grey wool / flannel, navy, etc.

Agreed. I think color 8 with the light edge on PTBs, LWBs, and Barrie boots is an awesome combination. I love the look.

Wish I could get my hands on #8PTB with the light edge. The Bureau (Belfast) has them, but they are too rich for me with the USD/GBP FX rate.

This is my favorite part:

Like “douchebag,” “hipster” was a name that no one could apply to oneself. But the opportunity to call someone else a “douchebag”: that offered the would-be hipster a means of self-identification by a name one could say, looking outward. In the douchebag, the hipster had found its Other.

So true.  Hipsters never admit to being a hipster, but always accuse others of being one.  It's like every single one of them is convinced that they pioneered the sockless and skinny jeans look and was the first person to discover J Crew.

...and rode a singlespeed/fixed gear bike. I loved the douchebag part myself.

Incidentally, don't hipsters wear Alden shoes now?

could anyone post a fit pic of a #8 straight tip blucher (model 2160), preferably with jeans or casual pants? google image search turns up a pic of mac wearing some with corduroys that looks great, but would like another angle.

anecdotal evidence on the aberdeen i've seen - wider heel and narrow toe box... correct? 9D plaza = 9D aberdeen?

Have you seen the one Leffot just got in? Not a huge fan of the crepe sole but easily changed after wearing it out. The shoe looks great in person and the whole Leffot team is top notch

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a hipster (early 30s, hold a bachelor of fine arts, ride a track bike, drink PBR and bourbon, wear tight pants, romanticize living below my means, etc.) but I own color 8 Wingtip Boots with DARK edge trim/welting.

Figure that one out.

"Hipsters" seem to favor 403/405 Indy boots from what I can tell. Also suede chukkas (from Alden and other brands)

that top picture just makes all flannel wearers appear to be hipsters.

I own the J Crew Indy (which I think look way better than the 405), Chukkas and #8 with antique welt. So it seems like I am in real trouble...
