I tried to confirm that they were going to be antique edge. The SA that replied said yes, our tanker boot has always had an antique edge. I replied, "Sorry to drag this out, but your last batch had a black edge and the picture in your website still has the black edge." I then asked if he would confirm the antique edge. He still has not replied back over the last two days. I'm not sure if he was annoyed that I would ask, or what??? I'm not convinced they will be antique edge. And I'm not convinced he knows what an antique edge is.
[Edit: Just got the reply...
"Every Cordovan #8 we've ordered through Alden has been made with the antiqued edge. Some batches are initially darker than other because of the handmade nature of the boot but they've all been ordered and made with the antique edge."]
Can anyone here confirm that all of their color 8 Alden makeups have come with antique edge??
Hi guys, first of all thanks to everyone who joined the Context tanker preorder. I apologize about the confusion regarding edging color. I preordered the tanker while knowing the edge would be black, the apparent change to antique edging was a bonus to me and I thought I'd share it with the thread. My exchange was with both Sam and William, they were both very helpful through my order process and responded to multiple emails promptly.
I asked Context about possibly changing the edging from black to antique for the current run on a whim, I told them that would get more people interested. The reply from Context was, it is has an antique edge already. I further referenced the current website picture with the black edge, the reply I got was that the current run has an antique edge.
I'll shot Context an email now and inquire about number of preorders and try to confirm the antique edge, will update everyone here once I hear back.
On another note, thanks to everyone who responded to my question of Naval boot vs. EP Alt Wien boot. In the usual SF fashion, I eventually convinced myself that I needed both. This was based on the fact that the Alt Wien boot is based on the EP Taunton boot, it has "square" captoe broguing with both edges raised and side broguing. The Naval boot is slightly different, with less broguing and circular captoe broguing with 1 edge raised. All minor things I know, but enough to differentiate the boots!
