[Edit:  Just got the reply...
"Every Cordovan #8 we've ordered through Alden has been made with the antiqued edge. Some batches are initially darker than other because of the handmade nature of the boot but they've all been ordered and made with the antique edge."]

Can anyone here confirm that all of their color 8 Alden makeups have come with antique edge??

Hi guys, first of all thanks to everyone who joined the Context tanker preorder. I apologize about the confusion regarding edging color. I preordered the tanker while knowing the edge would be black, the apparent change to antique edging was a bonus to me and I thought I'd share it with the thread. My exchange was with both Sam and William, they were both very helpful through my order process and responded to multiple emails promptly.

I asked Context about possibly changing the edging from black to antique for the current run on a whim, I told them that would get more people interested. The reply from Context was, it is has an antique edge already. I further referenced the current website picture with the black edge, the reply I got was that the current run has an antique edge.

I'll shot Context an email now and inquire about number of preorders and try to confirm the antique edge, will update everyone here once I hear back.

On another note, thanks to everyone who responded to my question of Naval boot vs. EP Alt Wien boot. In the usual SF fashion, I eventually convinced myself that I needed both. facepalm.gif This was based on the fact that the Alt Wien boot is based on the EP Taunton boot, it has "square" captoe broguing with both edges raised and side broguing. The Naval boot is slightly different, with less broguing and circular captoe broguing with 1 edge raised. All minor things I know, but enough to differentiate the boots!

Gentlemen, technically they are correct. They are likely the Mohagony Edge which is the darkest shade of Antique Edges. There are three antique edges; light tan, tan, and mohagany. We usually think of tan when we say antique, but there is a reason I frwquently say Tan "Antique" edges.

Those are beautiful boots my friend, but that is an awkward pose and you should really consider getting the edge on your jeans redone or double rolling them.

Happy Friday!

Thanks Mike. I pulled up the pantleg to show the boot but these jeans are RRL midland and bought already distressed. I like the vintage style and would not hem it away on these. I know its not for everyone thou.

I was just gearing up a reply. But you beat me to it. I can see where the confusion lies though. Especially with the JGilber/ B&M makeups too.

Buy them. They are great. Slightly darker than snuff suede, I posted a pic a month ago comparing them to the plaza last snuff suede boot by Frans Boone .
Aberdeen last us a great fit for boots.

I watched patiently from mid Dec 2014 to Feb 7, 2015 and then saw Alden Roy's limited availability email. I reached out, but received this below. It didn't feel like they were trying very hard with their Alden orders. Maybe it's not a core part of their business and doesn't get the attention we would like.

Hey Mike-
Thanks for contacting us. Here is how our new Alden system works:

If you need a size that falls within 8D through 12D,13D sign up for our email list. Only in D width. You can do so at the bottom of every page on our website. We order these sizes regularly throughout the year, and they are sold on a first come first served basis after they have delivered to us. We do not sell Alden via pre-order. You will be notified when each batch arrives at the shop and becomes available for sale. This is the quickest and most reliable way to acquire these sizes. Unfortunately, any size outside of that size run won't be available.

Regards-
William

I got the exact same reply re: the #8 Tankers. I am a 9D, so I added myself to their email blast. Did others who are within the 8D-12D size bracket somehow get added to a pre-order for the #8 Tanker, or are you guys all odd sizes?

Mike, I know what mahogany antique edge looks like.  I have it on my ravello LWBs.  They do not look black the way these pics of the recent context tankers have looked.  Also, I don't think Alden would put a dark brown edge with color 8.  It would look odd. (of course, I could be wrong)  Please don't read any tone into this post.  If any is seeping out, it is more directed at Context.  They think there is variation between the different shades of antique edge because of the handmade nature of Alden shoes... :puzzled:

Somebody asked for Barrie/Aberdeen comparisons on a similar style.  These are (1) Color 8 Leffot Tanker on Barrie, (2) Ravello NST on Aberdeen, and (3) Chamois Leffot Tanker on Barrie.  I did not have any natural light and the angles may not look consistent, but these were lined up evenly and remained in the same position in all the photos.

I'm 8.5D. No problems getting myself added to the Tanker pre-order. For reference, here is what I wrote in my email to them:

"I'd like to put down a deposit for the next run of Tanker boots you're doing. Can I pay via PayPal? If so, please send the request to this email address"
