I don't have them in my possesion yet but I have a photo from him, there is a small variation in the distance like you were saying but not significant enough for me to have an issue

Those look great.  I had the same thought asTif, and looking at this photo a little closer, it looks like the eyelets he used are a bit bigger.  This would allow him to cheat the hole a bit closer the front of the eye stay.  They certainly look more in-line than in this post, which has been my reference for hook>eye conversion.  Deets again on who did the work?

Looking for some advice-
I am looking to get a black or #8 boot to wear primarily with jeans while working. I was lucky enough to score a #8 indy off of the Jcrew pricing glitch a few weeks back but am concerned with the crepe sole. I am a real estate appraiser so I won't be wearing these while digging ditches or anything but they will see frequent wet grass and the occasional construction site with dirt and mud. Is this the wrong boot for me?
Would I be better off considering the Ironside Indy? I dig it, it has the commando sole, but I am worried the chamois will stain with all of the waling through wet grass I do.
Thanks for any insight.

After another terrible winter here in NYC, I am thinking about investing in black and color 8 bluchers on commando soles (likely from AoC) for next winter... I want to take a poll among those that wear conservative business dress, often have client meetings, etc

1) Would you feel comfortable wearing barrie lasted, commando soled shoes with business suits, ties, etc?
2) If you had a business meeting with someone you hadn't met before, how would you react to someone wearing commando soled Aldens of this type in this setting (assume that it is winter and that is/has snowed recently)

Often I find guys do the "wear Bean Boots, hiking boots, timberlands" to work, then slip on shoes at work method - I don't want to do that. I am also skeptical about overshoes.

Alcibiades,

I had the the privilege of owning #8 WT Boot on commando.

My profession requires me to go to appts and social gatherings.

I wore them with suits and trekked through shin deep snow in them at times to get to these functions.

The Alden Commando is sleek enough that you really cannot tell unless you are 5 ft away inspecting them.

I think what you are considering is very wise. Go for it.

If I could make a final rec though, it would be this:

1. AF 80
2. AF 66

These are IMHO the dressiest for the purposes you seek.

Best Wishes!

The posts I have seen on here of the AF 80 always look great.....seems like it would be easier to dress up than the LWB.

First office wear of LS Choco Tankers. One of my favorites hands down.

I share the desire for bad weather utility shoes. I am a little uncomfortable with Alden commando with full busines attire, though. So I usually do dainite or Carmina "commando" soles with business suits. I avoid climbing snow drifts in suits anyway so the dainite works well enough for me. Of course many colleagues wear year round Aldo or Kenneth Cole, so I know that I would probably be ok with Alden commando anyway...

You mean the slip-on chukkas, right? http://leathersoulhawaii.com/2011/11/10/alden-shoes-slip-on-chukka-lsw-2/
While I see your point, I'd hesitate to call a boot without an elastic panel or side gusset a Chelsea.

There's a pair of WTB on ebay that have commando soles.  I assumed they were from AofC, but noticed that the AF79s have blind eyelets, whereas these have agatine.  The model number is 4461HC--who offered that model?  And do AofC's AF-whatever boots actually have that stamped on the inside, or do they translate to a different Alden model number?

Watchman, thank you - I was looking precisely at those two models.
