DOn't get me wrong, I really like Alden, moreso than AE and have converted over, but I thought it was a valid question. I know I may get emotionally driven answers, this being an Alden thread and all.

I would say that's up to the individual buyer.  If you feel it justifies the large price difference - great.  If you don't feel it justifies the large price difference - great.  Whether or not a shoe/boot is worth the price is completely subjective.  I know a lot of people that find $80 shoes to be overpriced.  They sure as hell wouldn't drop $400 for some AE's or $600 for some Aldens.  So it's up to you.

@MT1982 I don't think it's entirely subjective. YOu can quantify what the differences are in quality and break it down(which I can't do), and go from there. So I do think it's more objective than you think.

It really is a personal decision. I feel that Alden is superior to AE so I buy Alden. I also feel that Edward Green is superior to Alden which is why that's where most of my shoe money goes. Just a little extra info so you know I'm not "All Alden all the time". I have owned quite a few AE, but have since gone to Alden for my American shoe needs.

I agree. I go to Alden now too because the fit is better and the styles that I chose to buy at AE are better at Alden. The boots are better which is the major thing. I just wish Alden had more styles and colors because the fit is really better for *my* foot. I'd like reiterate my previous question:

I know C&J has "handgrade" and "benchgrade". AE is machinemade with handwork on the lower end - this I know. As the shoes get more expensive, I assume the finer things are what separates the shoes into different tiers. My question is simply: are there tiers for shoe quality as there are tiers for suits like in the Hierarchy thread? If so, waht is the nomenclature? What are the levels of the shoe quality spectrum

What kind of style are you looking for that Alden doesn't have?

What do you guys recommend for sizing Aberdeen boots? I'm an 8D on Barrie. My heel is fairly thin but toes are a little wider. 8.5D on Aberdeen?
